Can a hospital function effectively without nurses?
What are the differences between the work of a doctor and a nurse?
Do you think it is necessary to learn first aid skills?
Do you think that doctors and nurses are not paid enough?
Who plays a more important role, doctors or nurses?
Do you think doctors and nurses are very important?
1. Can a hospital function effectively without nurses?
It’s impossible. To the best of my knowledge, doctors are accountable for diagnosing health problems and giving medical prescriptions. After that, nurses are people who take care of the patients, and make sure that they strictly follow the treatment process. So they play an indispensable part in any medical center.
- (be) accountable for: chịu trách nhiệm
- diagnose: chẩn đoán
- medical prescription: đơn thuốc
- indispensable: không thể thiếu
2. What are the differences between the work of a doctor and a nurse?
As mentioned before, while doctors learn to detect diseases and give guidance for treatment to patients, nurses work closely with both parties. To be specific, nurses are required to take orders and instructions from doctors about the treatment process, and look after the patients more frequently than doctors.
- detect: phát hiện
- guidance: hướng dẫn
3. Do you think it is necessary to learn first aid skills?
Definitely yes. Anything could happen all of a sudden. These skills are really important, especially when people go on a trip to remote areas, where hospitals or medical centers can be hundreds of miles away. In some cases, being armed with basic first aid skills can save a life or prevent the injury from getting more severe.
- all of a sudden: bất ngờ
- remote areas: vùng sâu vùng xa
- being armed with: được trang bị cái gì đó
- severe: nghiêm trọng
4. Do you think that doctors and nurses are not paid enough?
To be honest, I have no idea about their payments. I heard that many of them are underpaid so they have to open their own clinics after working hours at hospitals. But it’s all based on hearsay so I should not go further.
- underpaid: trả lương thấp, không xứng đáng với công sức
- clinic: phòng khám
- based on hearsay: nghe nói vậy
5. Who plays a more important role, doctors or nurses?
It’s hard for me to say. As each of them has their own roles and responsibilities with patients and they cannot function smoothly without the other. I think they all contribute to improving people’s health, so they are equally important.
- roles and responsibilities: vai trò và trách nhiệm
- function smoothly: hoạt động mượt mà
- contribute: đóng góp vào
6. Do you think doctors and nurses are very important?
Of course. Without them, people would live with poor health. This prevents them from working effectively and enjoying life to the fullest. Back to a few hundred years ago when healthcare system was not as developed, millions of people around the world had to suffer from incurable diseases. Thanks to well-trained doctors and nurses today, many illnesses can be cured and people’s longevity has increased significantly.
- enjoying life to the fullest: tận hưởng cuộc sống ở mức tốt nhất
- healthcare system: hệ thống chăm sóc sức khoẻ
- suffer: chịu đựng
- incurable: không thể chữa được
- well-trained: được huấn luyện tốt
- cure: chữa bệnh
- longevity: tuổi thọ
