Part 2: Describe a person you only met once recently and want to know more about

You should say

  • Who he/she is
  • When you met him/her
  • Why you want to know more about him/her
  • And explain how you feel about him/her

1. Bài mẫu (Sample)

The person I’d like to tell you about is a foreign volunteer I happened to meet at a charity event last month. She really caught my attention because she gave off such a warm and positive vibe, and I felt like there was so much more I could learn from her.

So, it was a Saturday morning and I was helping out at this event where we handed out food and clothes to homeless people in my city. That’s when I met Emily, a university student from Canada who was spending her summer break here in Vietnam. We only had a quick chat, maybe half an hour, but she was so approachable that it felt like I’d known her for much longer.

The reason I want to know more about her is that she’s had so many interesting experiences travelling to different countries. She told me she’d taught English in rural areas and was learning Vietnamese in her free time. I could tell she had this really open-minded way of seeing the world, and I thought it would be inspiring to hear more of her stories.

One thing that stuck with me was when she talked about learning to cook pho from a local family. She described the smells, the sounds, even the steam coming from the pot, and I could almost picture myself standing right there in the kitchen with her. It made me feel like she wasn’t just a visitor — she was genuinely trying to embrace our culture.

Overall, I walked away from that event feeling really inspired. I’d love to meet her again, maybe over a cup of coffee, and hear more about her volunteer work. Who knows, maybe we could even become good friends.

Part 3:

1. What should we not talk about when we meet a person for the first time?

I think it’s best to stay away from sensitive topics like politics, religion, or how much money someone earns. These things can make people feel uncomfortable or even start an argument. In some cultures, questions about age or marital status might also be considered rude. Personally, I prefer to talk about neutral topics like hobbies, travel, or maybe food.

Vocabulary:

  • sensitive topics: chủ đề nhạy cảm
  • neutral topics: chủ đề trung lập

2. What can we do to leave a good impression on people we meet for the first time?

For me, it starts with a smile and good eye contact. It makes you seem confident and approachable. I also try to listen carefully and not interrupt, because that makes people feel valued. Another thing is being punctual. Arriving on time shows you respect the other person. And of course, dressing neatly helps too.

Vocabulary:

  • eye contact: giao tiếp bằng mắt
  • valued: được trân trọng
  • punctual: đúng giờ

3. What qualities make true friends?

True friends are definitely trustworthy. You can tell them anything and know they won’t share it with others. They’re also supportive, which means they’ll be there for you whether you’re celebrating something or going through a rough patch. Respecting each other’s boundaries is also key to keeping the friendship healthy.

Vocabulary:

  • trustworthy: đáng tin cậy
  • boundaries: giới hạn, ranh giới (trong mối quan hệ)

4. Is it important to have the same hobbies and interests when making friends?

I don’t think it’s essential, but having some things in common definitely makes it easier to connect. For example, if you both like hiking, you can go on trips together. That said, different interests can be beneficial too. They give you a chance to learn something new. The important thing is to keep an open mind and enjoy discovering what makes your friend unique.

Vocabulary:

  • beneficial: có lợi

5. On what occasions do people like to make friends?

People often make friends during big life moments, like starting school or a new job. Social gatherings such as weddings, parties, or community events are also great chances to meet others. Travelling is another situation where people connect easily, because you often share experiences with people from different backgrounds. All of these situations naturally lead to conversation and sometimes long-lasting bonds.

Vocabulary:

  • backgrounds: nền tảng, xuất thân

6. How do people make friends in Vietnam?

Here in Vietnam, most friendships start at school, university, or the workplace. Many young people also meet through social media platforms, which makes it super easy to stay in touch. Sharing meals together is another big thing. It’s a way to talk, laugh, and feel closer. I think friendships here grow quite organically, through a mix of face-to-face and online interactions.
