1. Which is the better way to see wildlife, watching documentaries or going into the wild?
Each option has it own perks, and I would say that either is suitable for different kinds of visitors. When it comes to watching videos featuring the wild, it is so easy and effortless, I mean, one just needs to turn on the TV or go to a common video-streaming site to watch the live actions of the species, how they forage or hunt their preys. Thus, if people can’t find any time to pay a visit to a zoo, they can see whatever creatures they want to know via screens in a fraction of a second. That said, I think that nothing can compared to the experience of seeing those living things directly and and even touching or feeding them. I mean visitors can interact with real animals, not just the ones on screen. That’s why a trip to the zoo or a nature reserve is always an incomparable experience to most sight-seers.
- forage: tìm kiếm thức ăn
- in a fraction of a second: rất nhanh, trong tíc tắc
- a nature reserve: khu bảo tồn
2. What impacts does only seeing wild animals in zoos have on children’s understanding of these animals?
To me, observing captive animals in the zoo is a meaningful and also enjoyable activity to children because children can rarely see them in real life if they dont go to such places. However, only watching those creatures captivated in small cages may lead children to form some misconceptions about the wild. Due to constraints of the enclosures, animals in captivity could not show their natural behaviors and instincts, thus children can only view the wild species in a way that they are not in their natural state.
- captive animals/ animals in captivity: động vật bị nuôi nhốt
- constraints: hạn chế
- instincts: bản năng
3. Are there many wildlife documentaries produced in your country?
To be honest, I dont pay as much attention to the TV programs on the wild as I used to, but I don’t think there are enough documentaries produced in Vietnam. What I can see on the media is mostly those adapted or translated from other sources such as National Geographic channel. The videos often illustrate the daily life of typical wild species around the world, with stunning images and vivid sounds, I think they are still an effective learning source for those who take interest in nature. I hope that more documents should be kept about the wildlife in Vietnam so as to raise the citizens’ awareness of preserving the environment and natural habitats.
- take interest in: có hứng thú
- preserve: bảo tồn
- natural habitats: môi trường tự nhiên
4. Are wild animals easy to spot in your country?
As I have mentioned, we rarely detect a wild animal in our daily life, the areas that we can encounter them are zoos or national parks. Sometimes I do come across some videos on Tiktok showing some species like monkeys, deer or squirrels which are recorded by some mountain trekkers. These exotic creatures are often really friendly as long as people dont make them feel threatened. However, I reckon that the issue of protecting wild animals in my countries is so alarming, since many people still regard hunting wild birds or deer as a game to play. I think there should be stricter regulation against these inhumane wrongdoings.
- detect: phát hiện
- encounter: bắt gặp
- exotic creatures: sinh vật thú vị
- inhumane: thiếu nhân đạo
