1. Are there any positive effects of working with a family member?
There’re several benefits to this, one of which is a strong level of trust and understanding. This is because family members tend to have a good grasp of each other’s strengths and weaknesses, which can lead to more effective collaboration and a harmonious working environment. This mutual trust can enhance communication and reduce conflicts, ultimately leading to a more productive and pleasant workplace.
- A strong level of trust and understanding: Mức độ tin tưởng và hiểu biết cao
- have a good grasp of: have a good understanding of: có một sự nắm bắt tốt
- Harmonious (adj) (of relationships, etc.) friendly, peaceful and without any arguments: Hài hòa
2. Why do people like to set up a family business?
I guess people want to do so because they provide a sense of security and continuity. It’s probably because a family business can ensure that the values and traditions of the family are maintained and passed down through generations. Additionally, if the business takes off, then the family has some sort of material assets to pass down to their descendants, ensuring financial stability for the next generations.
- A sense of security and continuity: the feeling of being safe and connection between generations in a family: Cảm giác an toàn và kết nối
- Pass down through generations: go from one generation to another: Truyền qua nhiều thế hệ
- Material assets (n) things of monetary values: Tài sản vật chất
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of a family business?
One major benefit of a family business is the inherent trust and commitment among family members. This can lead to a more loyal and dedicated workforce, as family members are personally invested in the success of the business. However, the main drawback of it is the potential conflicts arising from personal relationships. These conflicts can sometimes spill over into the business, negatively affecting business decisions.
- Inherent (adj) of a basic or permanent part of sth: vốn có
- Commitment (n) hard work and loyalty in sth: Sự cam kết
- A spills over into B: A starts to affect B, especially in an unwanted way: đổ ập đến
4. Should companies promote competition, and why?
Without a doubt because competition can drive innovation and improve performance. When employees compete, they are often motivated to work harder and think creatively to outdo their peers. For instance, a sales team might be more determined in pursuing their goals if there are incentives for top performers. This can lead to increased productivity and better results for the company. However, it is essential to manage competition carefully to ensure it remains healthy and does not lead to excessive stress or unethical behavior among employees.
- Outdo sb (v) do better than sb: Vượt qua ai đó
- Determined (adj) having strong desire to do sth: Xác định
- Incentive (n) sth that encourages you to work harder (e.g. money): Khích lệ
- unethical behavior (n.p) behavior that can harm others, or that is morally wrong: hành vi vô đạo đức
