1. What kinds of people are likely to be role models for teenagers?

From my experience, teenagers often look up to their idols and aspire to emulate them. These idols can range from singers, actors, and athletes to entrepreneurs and billionaires. It’s quite clear that many youngsters idolize media personalities, which is likely a reflection of their heavy media consumption

  • Aspire: khao khát
  • Emulate: bắt chước, noi theo
  • Entrepreneurs: doanh nhân
  • Media personalities: nhân vật truyền thông
  • Heavy media consumption: tiêu thụ truyền thông quá nhiều

2. Is it important for children to have role models?

Well, I wouldn’t say that having a role model is absolutely essential, but it can be beneficial. Many young children try to follow in their role models’ footsteps, which can provide a clearer career path. Additionally, role models can offer motivation during difficult times. For instance, if a child feels like giving up, remembering their idol’s achievements might inspire them to persevere

  • follow in their role models’ footsteps: noi theo bước chân hình mẫu
  • Persevere: kiên trì

3. Are there any differences between today’s famous people and those of the past?

Yes, I believe there are some significant differences. Many of today’s famous figures initially gained fame through social media, where they also build their following and income. Going viral is relatively easy nowadays, with trends like dancing and eating challenges spreading rapidly due to social media algorithms. By contrast, in the past, people often became famous because of their exceptional talents, such as a captivating voice or outstanding acting skills. Their rise to stardom typically resulted from years of hard work rather than overnight success

  • Go viral: trở nên nổi tiếng
  • Social media algorithms: thuật toán của mạng xã hội
  • A captivating voice: giọng hát hấp dẫn
  • Outstanding acting skills: kĩ năng diễn xuất nổi bật
  • Rise to stardom: vươn lên thành ngôi sao
  • Overnight success: thành công chỉ sau 1 đêm

4. What qualities do famous people have?

Celebrities are usually talented in some specific way. Singers and actors, for instance, gain fame through their vocal or acting abilities. Additionally, some people become famous for their groundbreaking work, like inventors and entrepreneurs who revolutionize industries—think Mark Zuckerberg, who founded Facebook.

  • Groundbreaking: đột phá
  • Revolutionize: cách mạng hoá

5. What kinds of people are likely to become famous?

As I mentioned earlier, individuals generally need to be exceptionally gifted in their fields to achieve fame. However, it also requires a significant amount of courage and commitment. Performing in front of an audience or creating an innovative product that disrupts an industry, like Facebook or Apple, demands a bold vision and determination

  • Courage: lòng can đảm
  • Innovative: sáng tạo
  • Disrupt an industry: làm rối loạn 1 ngành công nghiệp
  • A bold vision: 1 tầm nhìn táo bạo
  • Determination: quyết tâm

6. Do people tend to choose the best people as their role models?

I believe so, mainly because the best is often the most memorable. People rarely remember who came in second place. That said, we can find inspiration in someone who isn’t necessarily the best but has admirable qualities or a relatable story. For example, a lot of badminton fans in Vietnam idolize Nguyen Tien Minh, despite him never being World No.1. His popularity likely stems from his inspiring journey and the shared national pride

  • Admirable qualities: những phẩm chất đáng ngưỡng mộ
  • A relatable story: 1 câu chuyện dễ liên hệ
  • National pride: niềm tự hào dân tộc
