1. Bài mẫu (Sample)
I am blessed with an aptitude for learning English, which I definitely want to improve in the future.
I noticed that I have this gift when I was in grade school. Learning English came naturally to me: I never had had formal pronunciation classes, but through my exposure to English content in the media, I just picked up the pronunciation features, from curling my tongue when pronouncing ‘r’ to rounding, spreading my lips or keeping them neutral for vowels.
At school, when I was called on to read out a text, I said each word and sentence with accurate prominence/stress, which took my instructor by surprise because that was way more advanced than our supposed level then. She asked me to stay behind after class and probed into how I got the stressed syllables and words right so effortlessly. As I could not explain anything but say it is how my brain is wired, she concluded that I must be a natural.
However, as Thomas Edison said, genius is 99% perspiration, there is only so much talent can do. I learnt this the hard way. Showered with my teachers’ praises for consistently ranking first in my class in English, I became complacent: the final-term test was the next day and I had not even cracked the cover, nor did I try to cram. I literally put in zero effort.
What followed was, as you probably can guess, my downfall. My performances visibly deteriorated: I went from being a straight-A student to barely getting a passing score within a few months. The ultimate wake-up call was when I failed to get into my dream school: what I got was below the minimum required scores. I took a hard look at myself and realized that I was not as good as I thought: the range of my grammar and vocabulary was limited, and the accuracy was hit-or-miss.
Ever since, I have stopped thinking that talents can spare me the hard work. I studied day and night, like I keep speaking and writing using newly-learnt vocabulary items until they roll off the tongue, and have now advanced beyond my previous proficiency level, which is encouraging. Going forward, I plan to hone my General English skills by following proven practices, say mnemonic devices for vocab and mimicry for pronunciation.

Part 3:
1. Is it possible for us to know whether children who are 3 or 4 years old will become musicians and painters when they grow up?
I think the prediction of one’s future careers is possible, but far from guaranteed. Of course, small children’s outstanding performances can be a reference point, say their keen sense of pitch and rhythm can suggest that they are musically inclined. Nevertheless, the giftedness may not last until adulthood, evidenced in the many child stars who never attained fame in their later life.
2. Why do people like to watch talent shows？
For most people, I think the main draw of talent shows is the amusement. It’s just fascinating to see humans and animals demonstrating extraordinary abilities on stage. I bet all the audience and viewers of British Got’s Talent kept watching Giang’s brothers’ acrobatic performances on the show because they wanted to be amazed by how one brother can balance the other upside down on his head.
