Part 3

1. Do young people like to go to parks?

Sample 1: To be honest, I doubt it because there are a lot more fascinating places that attract the young better than parks, such as cinemas, shopping malls, and camp sites, to name but a few. Most young people nowadays turn to social media or entertainment provided by TVs, cinemas or shopping centers as a remedy for stress and pressure.

  • Turn to something/ someone (v) tìm tới (cái gì đó/ ai đó)
  • Be a remedy for sth: là giải pháp cho (1 vấn đề)

Sample 2: It depends. Most people I know would say no as I think there’s nothing fun in the park and visiting it is a waste of time. In free time, they’d rather go to see a film, or go shopping in a mall. However, I know some, me included, really enjoy the trip to a park. They enjoy the hustle and bustle of metropolises, but also keen to get close to nature, and going to the park is the easiest and fastest way to do so. There, they can temporarily forget worries and concerns, and just live their lives to the fullest at present

  • go to see a film: xem phim ở rạp
  • me included: bao gồm cả tôi
  • hustle and bustle: sự náo nhiệt
  • metropolises: thành phố lớn
  • get close to nature: đến gần hòa mình vào thiên nhiên
  • live their lives to the fullest at present: sống hết mình ở hiện tại

2. What do old people like to do in parks?

Sample 1: I would say that parks are an important part of the elders’ routine. They have all retired from work, and thus can afford a lot of time to visit a park just to gossip with their fellows about their neighbors, children, or grandchildren. Some of them go to the park for light exercises such as casual walking, slowly dancing or doing leisurely sports. Besides, parks are also a place for old people to enjoy great moments with their family by having a barbeque or a picnic together.

  • Leisurely sports (n) môn thể thao thư giãn

Sample 2: To the best of my knowledge, they mostly come there for some group activties, such as doing exercise. Some do yoga, others do aerobics. It’s so exciting to see them enjoy the atmosphere with their peers and improve physical health at the same time. The thing is, sometimes the speaker of the aerobics team is too loud that can disturb the peace, leading to some disagreements between teams. What’s more, not too often, but I’ve seen the elderly hanging out there with their life partners or friends. I guess it’s safe and tranquil enough for them to spend quality time with each other.

  • peers: bạn đồng trang lứa
  • disturb the peace: vi phạm quy định vì làm ồn hoặc hành xử không đúng
  • life partners: vợ/chồng
  • tranquil: yên tĩnh
  • quality time: thời gian mà mình tập trung vào đối phương

3. What benefits can parks bring to a city?

Sample 1: The benefits of parks are undoubtedly tremendous. First, they play a crucial part in maintaining ecological balance of the city by ensuring a healthy amount of oxygen being produced every day. With the increased pollution in urban areas, especially in large metropolises, this role of parks has proved extremely important. Besides, parks provide places for public events to be organized, such as graduation ceremonies and election campaigns.

  • Maintain ecological balance (v) giữ cân bằng sinh thái
  • Metropolis (n) đô thị lớn

Sample 2: The merits vary. I think many people consider parks as green lungs to a city. They help regulate the air quality, and this is very vital when big cities usually suffer from air polution in the aftermath of industry, construction and transportation activties. Better still, they offer peaceful areas for urbanites to get away from the hectic pace of life. On weekends, they can also be ideal places to organize art galleries or outdoor events. Unless it rains, people can have great time experiencing new things together.

  • merits: ưu điểm
  • vary: có nhiều/ khác đi
  • regulate: điều chỉnh
  • in the aftermath of: là hậu quả của
  • urbanites: người thành phố
  • hectic pace of life: nhịp sống nhanh

4. What are the benefits of going to the park for young people and old people?

Sample 1: Visiting parks is absolutely beneficial for both young and old. For the youth, they can be closer to nature and find themselves more appreciative of the air they are breathing. It is also an ideal place to have a nice picnic or just do some physical exercises with their friends. For the old, parks can be a place where daily stories can be shared and bad feelings can be released. By going to the park regularly, elders are not only able to stay healthy but can also meet new people around their age, and establish new companionships.

  • Be appreciative of someone/ something: biết ơn ai đó/ cái gì đó
  • Establish a companionship (n) tạo thêm 1 mối quan hệ đồng hành/ có thêm 1 người bạn đồng hành

Sample 2: There are some significant reasons to this. Firstly, maybe they simply have an empty space in the house and would like to decorate it. It can be denied that the addition of some flowers in the house would make it more lively and vibrant. Besides, many people consider planting as a therapy for their souls. You know, city life is not without worries and concerns about expenditures, education, work and other stuffs, so the time gardeners spend with their flowers can be the most precious time during the day. By taking care of these little beautiful creatures, they are inspired and motivated to carry on somehow.

  • lively and vibrant: có sức sống và rực rỡ
  • therapy: trị liệu
  • city life is not without: cuộc sống thành thị không thể thiếu
  • gardeners: người làm vườn
  • carry on: tiếp tục cuộc sống

5. Would you say people should help maintain public parks and gardens?

Sample 1: I suppose so. People should hold some responsibilities for keeping public parks and gardens in good condition. We can refrain ourselves from damaging acts such as littering all over, walking on the grasses or vandalizing parks’ facilities. Also, we should also be able to financially contribute to the regular maintenance of parks via tax payment.

  • I suppose so = I think so
  • Refrain oneself from doing something (v) tự hạn chế/ kiềm chế làm gì đó

Sample 2: Without a doubt. As I mentioned, parks and gardens play a vital role in physical and mental health improvement. While the benefits for the former are quite obvious, I would like to elaborate more on the latter issue. Many people is talking about overthinking, when they regret too much about the past and are too afraid of the future. Gardening or going jogging in a park gives them a chance to get close to nature, be present and stay calm. I think this is the best therapy to heal stressed out people, especially when the number of them has been on the rise in recent years.

  • elaborate: giải thích
  • be present: sống ở hiện tại
  • heal: chữa lành
  • on the rise: tăng lên
