What do young people have strong opinions about?
1. Do you think it is good to have strong opinions?
It really depends on the situation. Having strong opinions can be positive when they are well-informed and based on solid reasoning. It shows conviction and can lead to meaningful change. However, if these opinions are rigid or uninformed, they can create conflict and close off opportunities for learning. So, while strong opinions are sometimes good, flexibility and openness to new ideas are equally important.
- Well-informed: có đầy đủ thông tin
- Conviction: niềm tin mãnh liệt
- Rigid: cứng nhắc
- Flexibility: sự linh hoạt
2. Do you think we should only say something after thinking it through?
Most of the time, yes, it’s important to think carefully before speaking. Thoughtful responses help avoid misunderstandings and ensure that we communicate clearly. However, in some situations, spontaneity and speaking from the heart can be valuable too. There’s a balance to be struck between being thoughtful and being authentic. In general, though, thinking things through prevents saying something we might later regret.
- Thoughtful: chu đáo, thận trọng
- Spontaneity: sự tự phát
- Authentic: chân thật
- Regret: hối tiếc
3. Which is more important, listening to others or persuading others?
It depends on the context, but most of the time, listening is more important. Listening allows us to understand different perspectives and build stronger relationships. Persuading others is valuable in certain situations, especially when trying to make a positive impact. However, without good listening skills, persuasion can come across as forceful or insensitive. Overall, effective communication starts with listening.
- Perspectives: quan điểm, góc nhìn
- Make a positive impact: tạo ra ảnh hưởng tích cực
- Insensitive: thiếu nhạy cảm
- Effective communication: giao tiếp hiệu quả
4. Are there many young people who have strong opinions in our lives?
Yes, many young people today express strong opinions on various topics, often with passion and enthusiasm. Some of these opinions are thoughtful and progressive, but others can be a bit extreme or even ill-informed. Social media gives young people a platform to voice their views, which makes their opinions more visible. However, it’s also common to encounter opinions that are not well-reasoned. Despite this, it’s good that young people are actively engaging with important issues.
- Progressive: tiến bộ
- Ill-informed: thiếu hiểu biết
- Voice their views: bày tỏ quan điểm của họ
- Engaging with: tham gia vào
5. What do old people have strong opinions about?

For example, many believe that women should prioritize marriage over pursuing higher education or careers. They also tend to have firm view son societal roles and how younger generations should behave. This attachment to tradition sometimes causes friction with younger people who prefer more modern lifestyles. These strong opinions are rooted in their upbringing and experiences from a different time.
- Traditional values: giá trị truyền thống
- Prioritize: ưu tiên
- Friction: sự va chạm, mâu thuẫn
- Rooted in: bắt nguồn từ
6. What do young people have strong opinions about?
Young people often have strong views on personal freedom and the right to choose how to live their lives. For example, they believe they should have the freedom to pursue their passions and make life choices without interference, as long as it doesn’t harm others. They also tend to have strong opinions on social issues like equality and climate change. However, they can sometimes be overly passionate about trivial matters, like defending their favorite celebrities without considering all sides. While some of their opinions are admirable, others can be a bit misguided.
- Personal freedom: tự do cá nhân
- Interference: sự can thiệp
- Overly passionate: quá nhiệt tình
- Misguided: lầm lạc, sai lầm
7. Is it important to be well-informed about the subject you’re giving opinions on?

- misinformation / misunderstandings – thông tin sai lệch / sự hiểu lầm
- credible – đáng tin cậy
- contribute meaningfully – đóng góp một cách có ý nghĩa
