Why are many people so keen on reading?

1. Do you think people of all ages need to read?

Yes, I 100% believe that reading can benefit everyone, regardless of what stage of life they are in now. For Children, reading books or even comics can help them develop imagination and create a door to obtain knowledge actively and effectively, without any need for teachers’ help. That would also help them improve language skills with more advanced vocabulary and correct grammar use. they can also enhance their communication skills with flexible and appropriate expressions. On the other hand, for working adults, they can read for professional purposes, meaning that they read books related to their fields of expertise to gain a promotion or a pay raise. For the elderly, I have read somewhere that a habit of reading from a young age helps people to delay the appearance of Alzheimer’s and so on.

  • expertise: kiến thức chuyên ngành
  • pay raise: tăng lương

2. What are the differences between paper books and movies?

There can be several aspects I can tell from my experience. First, books allow you to use your imagination and creativity to interpret the plots and stories to your preference. For example, when we all read Harry Potter, some of us love Draco Malfoy while others find him annoying and arrogant. Then, movies usually last for just maybe 2 to 3 hours while a book may tell a story in hundreds of pages, which means that books can give us more details of a story. It’s also noteworthy that we can improve our grammar and vocabulary much more effectively with the help of reading since while relaxing with a blockbuster, we hardly ever pay attention to those features.

  • blockbuster: phim bom tấn

3. What reading topics are popular in your country?

It depends on people’s age and gender. When it comes to youngsters, due to the high level of pressure in their work and the hectic schedules they have, the majority of them are in the habit of reading comics, which can be easier to read and take less time to finish. Some of course read specialized books for the sake of their jobs. The elderly will indeed pay more attention to their health and longevity, so the topics of choice here should be on medical care, healthy diets or exercise to improve their health. Regarding genders, while females love immersing themselves in romantic novels or cookery books, men usually read newspapers, magazines or anything about the topic of sports.

4. Is reading for fun or for work?

I honestly have no idea here. I have never thought that I would have to choose only one purpose of reading, you know, whether for its value as a pleasure or for any benefits related to my profession. What I’m trying to point out here is that even when we read it for work, we will eventually enjoy it for its entertainment value and vice versa. For example, when we need to browse some books about marketing, finance or architecture, the first few pages can be heavy-going, but then gradually, we start to feel more fulfilled and relaxed when the world seems to be quiet and we can completely immerse ourselves in those books. On the other hand, when we consider our reading is just for fun, we still gain knowledge, which one way or another will help us in our work, either directly or indirectly.

  • one way or another: không cách này thì cách khác

5. Do you think parents should help their children develop the reading habit from an early age?

Definitely, this should be the emphasis of parents in educating their children at home. Learning how to read effectively from an early age can broaden their horizons. It also helps to build concentration, creativity, curiosity and vocabulary, which can significantly benefit their Academic performance in the future when they go to school. Parents can ensure that their kids perceive reading as a hobby, something they do to unwind instead of a boring task. Several suggestions I have here are reading fairy tales for them when they are still young and unable to read, buying suitable books like comics, illustrative books or stories with lots of pictures and yes, setting a good example.

6. Why are many people so keen on reading?

I have a host of reasons here. We for sure read to gain knowledge and discover information, to have a more well-rounded perspective about the world around us. That’s how we can connect and communicate with different people from all walks of life. With the help of books, people can find viable solutions to any problems they have in life because, with more knowledge, people can develop their critical thinking skills, to assess a problem from many viewpoints, leading them to better measures. The most obvious reason why reading is such a popular hobby is that it reduces stress and helps recharge our batteries. We all should agree that getting lost in good stories in books is an ideal way to escape from it all, which is much better than some guilty pleasure like smoking or drinking. It is also more affordable too, especially with Kindle or some free reading apps on the Internet. Last, as I have said before, reading can slow down cognitive decline and therefore, reduce the chance of getting dementia or Alzheimer’s.
