Part 2: Describe a plan that you had to change recently
1. Bài mẫu (Sample)
As a self-describe spontaneous individual, I don’t plan ahead of time but usually choose to go with the flow instead. Having said that, occasionally, I do have to devise a schedule in order to stay on top of my work. Most recently, I’d say about a couple of months ago, I planned to visit Da Lat city, which is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and vibrant flower gardens. I’d been dreaming about this trip since forever and finally saved up enough money to afford the flight tickets and other travelling expenses.
However, as I was contemplating which sun dress to wear so that the bees wouldn’t confuse me with the flowers and sting me, I got a call from my friend telling me that she wouldn’t be able to join me. After taking a deep breath to calm down, I asked her the reason why she abandoned me in such a manner. She said that her man got her pregnant again with their second child. This only made me madder because here I am single and almost 30 while all my friends are happily married with children.
Also, I didn’t want to be going alone. I’ve read all the news articles about the danger of young women going on vacation by themselves, sending chills down my spine. As heartbroken as I was, I had to make the decision to spend the holiday doing something else. Luckily, I hadn’t paid for the airfare yet so there was no need for a cancellation or anything. I was sulking for the entire day and then realized there’s no need to be upset. I got plenty of other options to choose from, so I decided to go on a picnic with my dog in the park. Of course, it didn’t quite compare to the city of eternal spring, yet I was able to enjoy the holiday anyway.

Part 3:
1. How does technology help people make plans?
Technology has enabled us to make plans more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Nowadays, people can install apps like Google Calendar, Notion, or Any.do on their devices to help them organize their schedules, set reminders, and receive notifications about upcoming events. This has obviated the need for writing down a to-do list and constantly having to carry it around. Moreover, many of these tools offer cloud synchronization, which means users can access and update their plans across multiple devices seamlessly.
- obviate (v) – loại bỏ, ngăn ngừa (một điều gì đó không cần thiết)
- synchronization (n) – sự đồng bộ hóa
- seamlessly (adv) – một cách trơn tru, liền mạch, không gián đoạn
2. Why do you think parents still make plans for their children nowadays?
I believe parents continue to make plans for their children because they feel a strong sense of responsibility for their well-being and future success. In many cultures, it’s common for parents to manage their children’s schedules from school activities to extracurriculars because they want to instil discipline and maximize their opportunities. Also, young children often lack the foresight or maturity to make effective decisions on their own, so parental guidance is essential.
- extracurricular (adj) – ngoại khóa
- instil discipline (verb phrase) – gieo rắc kỷ luật, rèn luyện tính kỷ luật
- parental guidance (n) – sự định hướng của cha mẹ, hướng dẫn từ phụ huynh
3. Would you tell others if you change your plan?
Yes, absolutely. I believe it’s responsible to inform others if there’s been a change in plans, especially if it affects them directly. For example, if I cancel or reschedule a meeting or social gathering, I will notify the people involved as soon as possible otherwise they might feel disrespected and think that their time is not valued. It’s a matter of good communication and courtesy, helping to avoid confusion or inconvenience.
- courtesy (n) – lịch sự, phép lịch sự
4. Do people often change their plans?
Yes, people do tend to change their plans quite frequently. This could be due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness, weather conditions, or last-minute work commitments. Moreover, in today’s fast-paced and unpredictable world, flexibility has become a necessary skill. It’s not uncommon for people to adjust their plans to accommodate shifting priorities or new opportunities.
- unforeseen circumstance (noun phrase) – tình huống không lường trước được
