1. What kinds of sports would you like to play in the future?
As I look to the future, I usually lean towards sports that challenge my physical and mental abilities. I’d love to try out skiing, which first and foremost requires snow. So I’ll have to pay a visit to some European countries I think. I’ve always been fascinated by the snow and the scenery you can experience speeding down the side of a mountain. I think it would be an incredible experience to learn new skills and push myself to new heights.
- lean towards: thiên về
- pay a visit: ghé thăm
- push oneself to new heights: đẩy giới hạn bản thân
2. Why are there many athletes in advertisements?
Athletes are often featured in advertisements because they embody a unique combination of physical prowess, charisma, and relatability. Companies recognize that athletes can tap into a wider audience. By partnering with athletes, brands can associate themselves with positive values like hard work, dedication, and teamwork. Moreover, athletes often have a strong social media presence, allowing them to amplify brand messaging and reach a broader audience.
- embody (v) đại diện
- physical prowess (n) năng lực thể chất
- charisma (n)
- tap into: tiếp cận
- positive values (n) những giá trị tích cực
- social media presence: vị thế trên mạng xã hội
3. What are the features of people who watch sports games online, such as gender or age?
Studies have shown that fans who watch sports online tend to be younger, more tech-savvy, and male-dominated. However, these demographics are shifting as streaming platforms become more accessible. Online sports viewers are increasingly diverse, with women and older generations also tuning in. This fragmentation is driven by the increase of online content, social media platforms, and mobile devices.
- tech-savvy (A) thích/ hiểu biết công nghệ
- male-dominated (A) áp đảo bởi đàn ông/ đa số đàn ông
- tune in: tham gia vào
- fragmentation (n) phân nhóm, phân bổ
4. What’s the most popular sport in your country?
Soccer is Vietnam’s most popular sport, with a deep cultural significance to a lot of generations. The game’s accessibility is a key factor in its widespread appeal, as it can be played almost anywhere with minimal equipment. In Vietnam, soccer has become an integral part of community life, with children playing in streets, parks, and beaches, and adults cheering on their favorite teams in stadiums. The sport’s popularity is also reflected in the country’s professional league and the national team’s success in regional tournaments. Moreover, soccer has become an important symbol of national pride and identity, bringing people together across the country.
- cultural significance: tầm quan trọng về văn hoá
- intergral (A) quan trọng
- professional league: giải chuyên nghiệp
- symbol (n) biểu tượng
- national pride: sự tự hào quốc gia
5. What kinds of sports are popular now but not popular 50 years ago?
The sports landscape has undergone significant changes in recent decades. The rise of action sports like skateboarding and freestyle skiing has been driven by their accessibility and high-flying stunts. Meanwhile, traditional sports like horse riding and rowing have seen a decline in popularity. The growth of esports and mixed martial arts (MMA) has also been remarkable. These shifts reflect societal trends, including the desire for more excitement and entertainment, as well as the influence of technology and social media on our leisure activities.
- undergo (v) trải qua
- high-flying stunt: trò mạo hiểm cao
- societal trend: xu hướng xã hội
6. Do you think there are too many sorts of sports games on TV?
I think opinions are split on this. While some argue that the variety of options is great, allowing fans to choose from a wide range of sports and events, others claim that the sheer number of games can be overwhelming and dilute the excitement of each individual event. With the increasing popularity of niche sports like esports, as well as the traditional sports, it’s possible that there may be too many options for viewers to digest
- sheer number: số lượng lớn
- dilute (v) làm loãng
- niche (n) khác biệt, ít gặp
- digest (v) tiêu hoá/ tiếp nhận
