Why do young people waste more time?
What kinds of activities do you consider a waste of time?

1. How can people balance life and work?

I find that it boils down to personal choices and goals. Some people are just born workaholics, so work brings them joy and satisfaction, therefore, the scale can tip towards work more for them. But most of us I think strive for a balance between our work time and leisure time. Sometimes disconnecting with work after working hours and setting clear boundaries can make a huge difference because you can truly focus on your time with your friends, family or just enjoy your own company

  • boil down to: cái chính là
  • workaholic (n) nghiện công việc
  • strive for (v) cố làm gì
  • boundary (n) giới hạn
  • enjoy one’s company: thích dành thời gian với ai

2. What usually makes people feel pressured?

I mean pressure can come from anywhere but mainly from our jobs, relationships or even from yourself. When the workload is too much accompanied with a screaming boss can really chip away your sanity a bit. Others deal with family or relationship issues which are very emotionally draining. Therefore, having ways to alleviate stress is crucial to maintain a good mental health state.

  • workload (n) khối lượng công việc
  • chip away (v) cắt bớt (ảnh hưởng tiêu cực)
  • emotionally draining (a) mệt mỏi tinh thần
  • alleviate (v) giảm bớt

3. Do you think young people or old people are better at managing time?

Regarding time management, I believe old people are wiser than the younger generations. This is mainly because they are usually more disciplined and they have way more life experience. I mean with age comes wisdom which helps them know what is important and should be given priority, and what is trivial. Another point is that some old people are retired which allows them to take a step back and manage their day more effectively.

  • disciplined (a) có kỷ luật
  • wisdom (n) trí khôn
  • trivial (n) không quan trọng, không đánh kể
  • take a step back: chậm lại

4. Why do young people waste more time?

Well, for sure some of them do. I suppose the main reason is that they don’t value time as much and they have too many distractors. I remember the saying youth is wasted on the young. Besides, with all the different social media apps that are so alluring and easy to scroll through, it can be really to keep track of time. Therefore, it’s important for them to stop procrastinating and have better concentration.

  • distractor (n) những thứ gây xao nhãng
  • alluring (a) thu hút
  • procrastinate (v) trì hoãn

5. What kinds of activities do you consider a waste of time?

Numerous activities can be seen as frivolous. These are usually done either without any intentions or any desirable outcomes. Another thing to consider is diminishing returns. For example, surfing social media for an hour to relax is one thing but non-stop scrolling for hours on end is another thing. So people just need to be more aware of how they use their time in general.

  • frivolous (a) phù phiếm
  • desirable (a) mong muốn
  • diminishing returns (n) lợi ích giảm dần
  • non-stop (a) không dừng
