3. Where and how can people get to know new people?
4. Can clothing tell and reveal a person’s personality?
5. Why do individuals from the same family have different personalities?
6. How does society influence a person’s personality?
1. Are there any differences in the relationship between you and your friends and between you and other people?
There are, definitely. First, I can confide with my friends but not strangers, or even some family members, or colleagues, as I know they won’t judge me. What’s more, friends are meant to have each other’s back when one of them is in trouble. I trust mine to be there when I need them the most.
- confide with: tâm sự với
- have one’s back: hỗ trợ ai đó
2. Do people feel lonely in crowded cities?
This is happening more and more frequently. In cities, with the fast pace of life, people are usually occupied with work instead of spending time with their families or friends, weakening the bonds between them. Worse still, as a metropolis often offers good chances to meet many different people, one may find it hard to truly deeply learn about someone. They are inclined to think that there are more interesting people to be found, ending up finding no one that really resonates with them.
- fast pace of life: tốc độ cuộc sống nhanh
- occupied with: bận
- learn about someone: tìm hiểu ai đó
- are inclined to: có xu hướng
- ending up: kết thúc bằng việc
- resonate: đồng điệu
3. Where and how can people get to know new people?
There are many places and ways to do so. Speaking of “Where”, a new school or workplace can be a good example. Or one can join clubs such as sports, painting and music, as mutual interest is one of the strongest connections. When it comes to “How”, trying to look approachable and say “hi” is the easiest way, I guess. After that, talking about something in common could work like a charm.
- mutual interest: sở thích chung
- approachable: dễ tiếp cận
- work like a charm: siêu hiệu quả
4. Can clothing tell and reveal a person’s personality?
Yes and no. Usually, how people dress can partly show who they are. For example, an active and enthusiastic girl can put on a crop top and short skirt, while a more girly one would lean toward a dress on a regular basis. However, some people would also say “don’t judge a book by its cover”, because clothing can be a camouflage. For example, someone who looks always neat and tidy but inside it’s all a mess.
- put on: mặc đồ
- lean toward: thiên về phía
- don’t judge a book by its cover: đừng đánh giá ai qua vẻ bề ngoài
- camouflage: lớp ngụy trang
5. Why do individuals from the same family have different personalities?
The reasons vary. First, it can be attributable to their nature. I believe that each individual has been born with some instinctive characteristics. Second, the experience of each person is different. Parents and children in the same family live in different eras with varied environments, technologies, transportation and so on. On a smaller scale, a firstborn, a middle child and a baby of a family can be distinctive from each other, as they have different experiences with their parents, siblings and also different circles of friends.
- be attributable to: là tại vì
- instinctive characteristics: tính cách bẩm sinh
6. How does society influence a person’s personality?
Tremendously, especially in their early 20s. Usually, people leave their homes when they are above 18. However, I don’t think they are cognitively mature at that age. As these adolescents spend more time with social connections such as college friends or colleagues, they will be under the influence of them. Furthermore, when they grow up and are capable of analysing abstract topics, social issues around them and around the world can have a greater impact on them.
- cognitively mature: trưởng thành về mặt nhận thức
- under the influence: chịu ảnh hưởng
