Part 2: Describe something that you cant live without (not a computer/phone)

  • What you do with it
  • How it helps you in your life
  • And explain why you can’t live without it

1. Bài mẫu (Sample)

When it comes to something that they most certainly can’t live without, most people would say it’s their smartphones. To me, however, it has got to be my iPad.

I saved up the money to buy it since senior year in college, when I realized that having an iPad would be of great help to my studies and work. After much consideration, I eventually settled for an iPad Air 4 with a 10.9-inch screen. The smaller screen meant the device was very compact and had an affordable price tag. I was also a big fan of the sleek design and the light blue metallic back.

Learning to use an iPad was a walk in the park for me. I was quite familiar with Apple devices since I had owned an iPhone for nearly 7 years, and an iPad was essentially an oversized iPhone. The interface was simple and easy to navigate, so I got the hang of it quickly. With my trusty iPad (and a third-party note-taking application that I bought from Apple store), I was able to take notes a lot quicker when I was teaching, which meant I could give feedback more effectively for my students. My schoolwork also benefited, as I could organize my notes more logically using the app.

I don’t just use my iPad for study or work, of course. It’s also my go-to device for playing mobile games (You see, I’m a sucker for First Person Shooter games like Call of Duty, and iPads are the perfect device to play them besides a gaming console). Last but not least, my iPad comes in handy whenever I want to watch a movie, as I could just curl up in my bed and enjoy the movie without having to go to the living room.

With all of those uses, my iPad has become an all-encompassing device, something that is indispensable in my life. Honestly, I don’t know what I’ll do without it.

Part 3:

1. Do you think it is good for a child to always take his or her favourite toy with them all the time?

Yes. Having your child’s favorite toy could come in handy in some situations. The toy could act as an emotional-support object to sooth the child when they are in a stressful situation, like going to the doctor for vaccination or a tooth extraction. Children can develop a strong attachment to their toys, so being able to hold their favorite teddy bear in those moments can really help comfort them, and they’ll be more well-behaved too.

– Sooth (v): Xoa dịu

– Comfort (v): An ủi

2. Why do all children like toys?

Well, I guess it’s because children are playful by nature, and toys are a representation of that playfulness. I mean, kids love playing with their dolls or action figures because it brings them joy, and I think that’s adorable.

– Playful (Adj): vui tươi, thích chơi đùa

3. What do you think influences people to buy new things?

Well, the first thing is necessity. People may get something new because their old ones broke down or no longer suit their needs. The second treason is probably to give themselves a reward, like businessmen buying a new posh car after they’ve made it to celebrate their success and indulge themselves a little.

– Necessity (n): Sự cần thiết

4. Is the way people buy things affected? How?

Definitely. Humans are social creatures, so when we see people around us getting something new, we’d feel compelled to do the same out of a need to fit in or a fear of missing out. For example, a person might get the latest iPhone just because all their friends are getting it. Advertising also affects people’s purchasing decisions by portraying a product in a positive light so that people would think it’s a good purchase, or appealing to subconscious parts of ourselves, such as our desire for luxurious material possessions. A case in point would of course be Apple ads, which associate their products with luxury and has helped build their loyal fanbase.

– Compel (v) sb to V: Buộc ai phải làm gì

– Appeal (v) to sb/sth: Thu hút ai/cái gì

5. Why do some grown-ups hate to throw out old things (such as clothes)?

Well, I don’t want to say they’re cheap, so let’s just say those people are frugal. They still see the value of old things like clothes, and they don’t want to be wasteful, so they just donate those items to their relatives or those in need.

– Frugal (Adj): Giản dị

– Wasteful (Adj): Lãng phí

6. Why are children attracted to new things (such as electronics)?

Well, children have poor self-control, so they’re easily drawn by shiny new things. They can also be fickle-minded, which means they might get bored easily with an item after a while and can immediately want something new afterwards.
