Đề bài: IELTS Speaking part 3 purchase

1. Why are children attracted to new things (such as electronics)?

They’re inherently curious and gadgets are somewhat enigmatic and mysterious items. We hardly know them although all of us use some sort of electronics on a daily basis. So naturally, children are drawn to such items, you know, smartphones, TV, computers, etc.

  • inherently: thuộc về bản chất
  • gadgets: thiết bị công nghệ
  • enigmatic: bí ẩn

2. Why do some grown-ups hate to throw out old things (such as clothes)?

As soon as you become an adult and have to make money to buy stuff, you understand the value of money. Even if it’s old, if it works, it works and there’s no need to get rid of it. Also, over time, you might feel attached to the objects, especially things like your parents’ personal effects or childhood toys and obviously, it’s hard to throw away sentimental items.

  • get rid of: loại bỏ
  • sentimental items: đồ vật chứa nhiều tình cảm

3. Is the way people buy things affected? How?

TV adverts have a huge impact on our buying decisions. We’re happy to buy things we have no need for after watching a captivating advertisement. For example, Vietnamese people tend to order loads of useless household appliances that malfunction only after a week just because these companies know a thing or two about marketing and branding.

  • malfunction: hỏng

4. What do you think influences people to buy new things?

Like I’ve just said, commercials play a big part. However, it’s also things like greediness and jealousy. If your neighbor or your friend has a cool car or an enormous house and they, for some reason, insist on showing their possessions to you, you feel an urge to upgrade your car or move to a nicer place.

  • greediness: sự tham lam
