1. Do you like listening and telling jokes?
Yes I do. My friends and I often tell jokes to each other. Sometimes I see a post on Facebook and send it to them. We plan to go to a stand up comedy show this week.
2. How do you know what jokes are proper to say to your friends?
I don’t know. We tell each other everything and they are not very sensitive so they laugh with me all the time. But if a person gets mad or sad then maybe the joke is not proper.
3. How can a joke hurt someone?
Well, I guess if a joke is insensitive then it can hurt the person. For example, some friends call me fat as a joke and even though I laugh with them, I’m not okay with that.
4. What are some situations when it is impolite to laugh at a joke?
I think sometimes it is impolite to laugh in serious situations, like in a meeting. It is also rude to laugh at insensitive jokes or hurtful jokes, like at a group of people. And when the joke is not funny, of course.
5. What are some common subjects that people like to joke about?
Body image, love life, driving skill, and so on. For example, my group of friends tease each other about our exes by calling someone by their ex’s name.
6. Are there comedy shows in your country?
There are some but I don’t watch any. I remember when I was young, my family used to watch a show called “Gap nhau cuoi tuan” which means “Meet up at the weekends”. We watched it every Saturday morning. Now we watch “Gap nhau cuoi nam”, which means “Meet up at New Year’s Eve”.
7. Have you ever watched a live show?
I have not. I don’t have money to go to live shows. And I just watch livestreams on Youtube or on television. My dream is to go and see “Gap nhau cuoi nam” with my family.
8. Are you good at telling jokes?
I think so. My friends laugh whenever I tell them a joke. Sometimes people say that I’m funny too. But my mom gets mad at my joke so I don’t know.
