Bên cạnh Part 2, bạn hãy tham khảo thêm Part 3 cho chủ đề này nhé

1. Are IT-related jobs valued more by society?
2. Is the quality of products worse than before?
3. What kinds of things do people like to repair by themselves?
4. Why do people like to get their mobile phones repaired in specialized stores?

1. Are IT-related jobs valued more by society?

(Với câu hỏi này, ta có thể hiểu theo 2 cách. Vì vậy chúng ta có thể áp dụng cách nhờ giám khảo diễn tả cụ thể hơn nhé)

Do you mean that computer engineers are getting better recognition than they used to or am I supposed to compare them with other professions? If it was the former then I would definitely agree. We are shifting to an era where automation is the single most profitable industry.  And obviously, there is a positive correlation between the amount of money you get and the amount of respect you receive.

That being said, when compared with other more traditional jobs, I don’t think there is any special treatment for either group.

  • automation: tự động hóa
  • profitable industry: ngành nghề sinh lời
  • positive correlation: tỷ lệ thuận
  • special treatment: cách đối xử ưu ái
Are IT-related jobs valued more by society?

2. Is the quality of products worse than before?

From my personal experience, this is sadly true. I mean, the fridge my parents bought in the 90s lasted us 25 years whereas my newly-bought freezer has already broken down twice. I have read from somewhere that manufacturers deliberately shorten the lifespans of their products so that their inventory turnover rate increases. I think, as consumers, our voice is not being represented enough.

  • lifespans: tuổi thọ
  • inventory turnover rate: tỷ lệ luân chuyển hàng tồn kho

3. What kinds of things do people like to repair by themselves?

When it comes to fixing things around the house. The first image that comes to everyone’s mind is a traditional husband. I suspect that, for the baby-boomer men, fixing stuff is not merely a necessary thing to do but more of a hobby really. I think they deserve more love from us all.

4. Why do people like to get their mobile phones repaired in specialized stores?

As someone who also does this on quite a regular basis, I think there are 2 reasons why Vietnamese people do this. I can’t really say for other countries really.

First off, smartphones in Vietnam are considered to be a luxurious item by most people. Therefore, whenever there is a problem with it, we do not trust ourselves with fixing it and bringing it to the store is a must.

Secondly, hustlers are literally everywhere in this country. If you chose a random technician on the street over a specialized store just to save some money, you would be risking your phone components being switched out for some much worse used spare parts. The difference would only be felt once you get home and that would be too late for you to do anything about it.
