1. What traditional handcrafts are popular in Vietnam?
Being a tropical country with advantageous climate patterns for bamboos and woods, it is not hard to find crafty products from these materials in Vietnam, you know something like small baskets made of woven bamboo thin strips and massive vases of lotus carved from woodblocks. Not only are they favoured in Vietnam, but they also successfully reached some international major markets such as Europe and the US.

2. What do young people think of traditional handcrafts?
Admittedly, a lion share of Vietnamese teenagers now tends to chase after superficial values such as something momentarily lasting trend and social media fame. As a natural result, anything related to tradition is often implicitly and explicitly scoffed to be obsolete and outdated compared to the glamorous and glittering stuff that they are constantly after. However, here and there, I’m happy to see a minimal bunch of the young still cherish this type of artwork, which actually usually requires artisans a certain number of arcane skills to be made, in fact.

It probably results from an overarching trend of the whole society, which is quite disenchanting but in fact, not only the young but also other generations now are likely to subconsciously underestimate the true value of traditions. State-of-the-art items with a high monetary emphasis usually seem to be considered to become a gift in the community, from my own experience.

Furthermore, this kind of livelihood also benefits the nation as it helps perpetuate a lasting cultural identity in Vietnam for our descendant generation.
