2. Bài mẫu
The bar chart illustrates the proportion of US citizens living alone across five age groups, ranging from 17 to 64, between 1850 and 2000.
Overall, the proportion of people living alone increased across all age groups over the period. Notably, adults aged 55–64 consistently recorded the highest percentages and experienced the most substantial growth compared with the other groups.
In 1850, just over 2% of individuals in the 37–46 and 47–54 age groups lived independently, while the figure for those aged 55–64 was slightly higher at approximately 3%. By 1900, the proportion of people living alone in the 37–46 group remained stable, while the 47–54 and 55–64 categories experienced minimal increases. Meanwhile, the 27–36 group was first recorded at just over 2%, the lowest figure among all age groups.
More noticeable increases were observed in the second half of the period. In 1950, the proportion of individuals aged 55–64 living alone rose significantly to nearly 9%, while the figures for the remaining age groups were still below 4%. By 2000, the percentages had grown substantially across all categories, with the proportion of the 55–64 group almost doubling to around 17%. This was followed by the 47–54 and 27–36 groups at approximately 13% and 8% respectively, while the figures for those aged 37–46 and 17–26 were lower at roughly 7% and 5%.
