1. Phân tích đề bài

1.1. Đề bài

Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Phân tích yêu cầu đề bài: Đề bài yêu cầu chúng ta bàn luận 2 mặt và đưa ra quan điểm cá nhân rằng nên học nhiều môn hay tập trung vào 1 chuyên ngành à Theo ý kiến cá nhân thì tập trung cho 1 chuyên ngành quan trọng hơn

1.3. Dàn bài chi tiết

Body 1: Other subjects  

  • Broaden horizon + diversify spectrum of knowledge = > abundant job opportunities + obtain more well-rounded perspective to apply into your job
    eg: UX design – require human psychology 
  • Suitable for those still undecided on discipline/future path = > figure out what to pursue 

Body 2: Focus on a qualification – agree more 

  • Able to acquire in-depth knowledge & insights à land more highly skilled positions in chosen profession (higher income; career progression;..)
    eg: medicine 
  • more economical & financially sound => avoid squandering resources on unnecessary & irrelevant subjects
    eg: sign up for credits 

2. Bài mẫu

Nowadays, undergraduates in universities are increasingly concerned about their curriculum at school. While some students prefer to study a variety of different subjects along with their primary major, others would opt to focus on completing their chosen field. Although both perspectives are valid, I would contend that the latter is more practical.

On the one hand, it is justifiable for students to explore various options while in university. Firstly, this would allow those scholars to broaden their horizons. By learning a range of specialties, students would be able to diversify their spectrum of knowledge, which would provide them with abundant job opportunities. The reason for this is because many employers now seek applicants who possess a well-rounded perspective to apply into their work and usher in innovation and cutting-edge ideas. For instance, a UX designer should have a grasp of not only the technical aspects but also of human psychology in order to create a user-friendly environment for people to use in an intuitive manner. In addition, this method of studying is highly suitable for undergraduates who are still undecided on what future path to take. Since students would be able to dabble in different disciplines during their time at school, they would have the opportunity to figure out what suits them best, which they could then pursue further afterwards. Furthermore, this would prevent them from making hasty decisions that could result in regrets later on.

On the other hand, I believe for most students, selecting a major and sticking with it would be the more optimal decision. First, students would have the chance to acquire more in-depth knowledge and insights into their preferred discipline. As a result, they would be able to land more highly skilled positions in their chosen profession, which would entail higher income or better career progression in the long run. An example for this would be the field of medicine, which requires prospective doctors and practitioners to complete a degree that lasts 5 to 6 years at minimum, during which they would have to fully exert themselves and dedicate fully to garner as much experience and knowledge as possible. This would make it nearly impossible for these students to branch out into other subjects during their studies. Moreover, if a student devotes their university education to accomplishing a single major, they will be able to prevent the risk of squandering resources, including time, money and effort, on unnecessary and irrelevant subjects. For instance, in Vietnam, university students are expected to sign up for subjects to learn, which equate to credits that are required to be paid for. Therefore, undergraduates, especially those from less fortunate backgrounds, would have to carefully take into account what their goals in terms of future career path are to select the appropriate subjects so as not to waste money.

In conclusion, while exploring different avenues when it comes to one’s own university education does offer a number of benefits, from my perspective, dedicating time and effort to one specialty would prove to be a more economical and financially sound approach.
