2. Bài mẫu
The maps illustrate how a part of Shalton village changed between 1910 and 2010.
Overall, the area underwent significant changes, the most important of which were the construction of more houses and facilities at the expense of green spaces, turning it into a more developed and urbanised area.
Looking first at the 1910 layout, the area featured three main roads: School Road to the west, London Road to the east, and High Street to the south, forming a triangular enclosed area in the centre. Inside this triangle stood a large house surrounded by several trees, while a grocer, a baker, and three residential units were situated on High Street. A butcher, a school, and another housing area were located along School Road. Meanwhile, London Road was the only road without any housing, with only a post office positioned near its northern junction with School Road.
Turning to the 2010 map, the overall road structure remained unchanged, but the interior of the triangle experienced dramatic changes. The large house and its surrounding trees were demolished and replaced with a cluster of new homes, indicating significant residential growth. Most earlier shops had disappeared, giving way to newer facilities, including a bank, a supermarket, a parking area, and a café along School Road, transforming it into the village’s main service corridor with no housing. Additional homes were also built along London Road and High Street, while the post office and the school remained intact.
