Some people say that in the modern world, getting old is entirely bad. Others believe that old people’s life nowadays is much better than in the past. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

2. Bài mẫu
While some individuals view modern seniority as a period of inevitable decline and isolation, others argue that the quality of life for the elderly has improved dramatically compared to historical standards. In my opinion, although the fast-paced modern world presents unique psychological challenges for the aged, advancements in healthcare and social welfare make growing old today significantly better than in previous centuries.
On the one hand, those who regard aging as a negative experience often point to the societal and technological shifts that define the modern age. The most pervasive issue is the erosion of the extended family structure. Unlike in the past, where multi-generational households were the norm, the rise of the nuclear family often leaves the elderly socially isolated and prone to loneliness. Furthermore, the relentless pace of technological advancement can be a source of alienation. Many seniors struggle to adapt to a digital-first world, where banking, communication, and even healthcare often require digital literacy, leading to feelings of obsolescence and frustration.
On the other hand, the argument that the elderly enjoy a superior quality of life today is supported by undeniable medical and socioeconomic progress. Historically, old age was often synonymous with untreated pain, immobility, and distinct poverty. Today, medical breakthroughs have not only extended life expectancy but also improved the number of years a person remains active and healthy, granting seniors continued independence. Additionally, the establishment of state-funded pension schemes in many countries provides a financial safety net that did not exist for previous generations. Consequently, this economic security allows seniors to enjoy retirement as a time of leisure rather than facing the threat of destitution.
In conclusion, while the modern world poses challenges regarding social cohesion and technological adaptation, I believe these are outweighed by the benefits of living in the 21st century due to modern medicine and social policy.
