All towns and cities need to have large outdoor public spaces such as parks or squares. Do you agree or disagree?

(Tất cả các thị trấn và thành phố cần có không gian công cộng ngoài trời lớn như công viên hoặc quảng trường. Bạn đồng ý hay không đồng ý với ý kiến trên?)

Urban planning undoubtedly has a considerable bearing on the well-being of city dwellers. Because of this, public opinion remains divided over how to effectively design cities and towns in a bid to boost citizens’ welfare. It is believed that open green places such as parks and squares should always be present in urban areas and towns. This essay would agree with this thinking as such vast spaces are highly beneficial to both physical and health of the masses.

Constructing many outdoor recreational amenities in towns or cities irrefutably has a positive impact on citizens’ health. Obviously, sedentary lifestyles have long been established as the chief culprit of the increasing number of health problems such as obesity or diabetes. In other words, individuals are becoming less physically active; for example: working adults typically sit behind a desk and children tend to hunch over their phones for an enormous amount of time daily, which can be highly detrimental to their health. These low levels of physical  activities can be attributed to a dearth of large outdoor spaces where people can play sports or do exercises. Thus, building more vast green spots is of the essence for every city and town as these places could provide much-needed space for people to work out and maintain good levels of fitness.

Health aside, wide public spaces can also improve the psychological well-being of the public. Communal places such as parks or squares are generally deemed the sites where people can relax after grueling working hours as well as build local communities through social conversations and interactions. The absence of such places can take a heavy toll on city dwellers’ mental well-being since they may spend more time staying at home or the workplace. Hanoi perfectly epitomizes this situation. Due to a lack of green vast areas, people have fewer chances to go out and socialize with others and in most cases, they are forced to be either in their apartments or offices during the day, which tends to leave them mentally drained. This is a testament to how building large outdoor areas is of fundamental importance for the mental health of the masses in urban areas.

In conclusion, the notion that every town or city needs to have large green spaces is valid as these places could go a long way towards enhancing both physical and mental welfare of the general public.

Bài mẫu 2 – Topic: Are men naturally more competitive than women?

Tham khảo bài mẫu thứ hai về topic agree or disagree về chủ đề “Are men naturally more competitive then women?”

Some people say that men are naturally more competitive than women. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

(Một số người nói rằng nam giới thường có sự cạnh tranh hơn phụ nữ. Bạn đồng ý hay không đồng ý với quan điểm trên?)

There is a long-held stereotype that men are more likely to welcome competition than women do because of their nature. However, I believe that this is not true because women can be as competitive as their male counterparts. Moreover, this characteristic in men is not a biological product but a social development.

On the whole, both women and men are reported to feel equally ambitious; However, they often compete in different divisions. There are many business executives who proudly embrace their femininity  even in a cutthroat environment, namely Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg or Youtube CEO Susan Wojcicki. Several researchers also pointed out that both female and male managers are shown to be more assertive than their subordinates. With that being said, it should also be noted that men usually compete in athletics while female rivals are typically found in looking attractive. Hence, it would be inconclusive to say that men are more competitive.

On the other hand, aggressive traits are more commonly seen in men because they are often encouraged to assert themselves. The majority of the global population live in cultures with a patriarchal social order, where male members are raised with a mindset that they are superior. Consequently, they have more support, emotionally and substantially, to outperform women. In contrast, women shy away from competition due to lack of encouragement, such as same-gender colleagues in managerial  positions. Moreover, it is often the case that girls are taught a prosocial mentality from a young age which can turn them into team players. As a result, it can be said that the determination found in men is a product of social norms.

In conclusion it is my belief that any differences between genders is a social construct that cannot and is not encoded in our X or Y chromosome . Additionally, it is important that any biased view  is not perpetuated as there is an urgent call for cooperation and solidarity.

Bài mẫu 3 – Topic: Celebrities

Bài mẫu agree or disagree về chủ đề: Celebrities từ cô giáo Phương Anh – giáo viên The IELTS Workshop, cùng tham khảo bài mẫu thứ ba này nhé!

Nowadays, celebrities are more famous for their glamour and wealth than for their achievement, and this is a bad example to adolescents. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, people seem to derive more fame from their wealth and lavish lives rather than what they achieve, and so are said to be a bad influence on young people. In my opinion, the growth towards materialism in celebrity culture is indeed worrying, but talent is more crucial in determining an individual’s relevance in the field in the long run.

It is understandable why present-day celebrities are often admired or envied solely for their wealth. With the proliferation of viral media, the conspicuous display of affluence can be a shortcut to stardom, as illustrated by Tiktok or Instagram influencers who amass an impressive following just because they are dressed in designer clothing or live in luxurious apartments. However, this thinking is problematic because many are also acknowledged for their contributions to the industry, and the difference is that reputation of this kind is more long-lasting because no material possessions are evanescent in nature, which means that in time, celebrities who seek to benefit from them also risk making themselves obsolete.

However, the overwhelming presence of wealth-flaunting content on social media has given rise to a lifestyle centred on superficiality and shallowness, especially with audiences like young people who are willing to do anything to make themselves look trendy and flashy just like the public figures they see on social media. This will adversely affect their psychological well-being in the long run because an emphasis on extravagance makes them fail to realize the importance of moral values, for example, human connection and empathy.

In conclusion, appearing rich and luxurious may pave the way to popularity, but the resulting fame is relatively short-lived and may instil a glamour – oriented mindset within the youth. To remain relevant in the industry, it is talent and expertise that people should pay attention to.

Từ vựng và cấu trúc (Vocabulary highlight)

  • lavish lives: đời sống xa hoa
  • materialism: chủ nghĩa vật chất
  • long-lasting: lâu dài
  • evanescent: dễ tiêu tan
  • wealth-flaunting: khoe của
  • superficiality and shallowness: sự bề mặt và nông cạn
