1. Can students choose their deskmates in your country?
In most cases, students don’t get to choose their deskmates. The seating arrangements are usually decided by the teacher, often with the aim of mixing things up and encouraging students to interact with different peers. Having said that, in some schools, especially in higher grades, students might have more flexibility in choosing their seats. For example, where I work, students are allowed to sit wherever they please, making them more comfortable.
2. Is it good for children to play with their classmates?
Without a doubt, it’s very beneficial for children to play with their classmates. It helps them develop social skills, learn to work in teams, and understand the importance of sharing and cooperation. I think I’ve read a study indicating that play is actually a major precursor to children’s cognitive development.
3. Did you like your deskmates in primary school?
Yes, I enjoyed having my deskmates in primary school. I remember vividly we often collaborated on group projects, which helped us learn how to work together effectively. Sharing stationery during class also makes the lesson more interesting. What I mean is that having someone to interact with made the classroom experience more engaging and enjoyable, and I still remember some of the valuable friendships I formed during that time.

4. Is it good for children to play with their classmates?
Yes, it’s very beneficial for children to play with their classmates. It actually helps them develop social skills like communication and empathy, which, I believe, are crucial for their overall growth. Through play, they also learn to cooperate and work together towards common goals, which is an important life skill. Another advatange I can think of playing together is that it allows children to resolve conflicts in a healthy way. These experiences help them form strong bonds and build trust with their peers, contributing to their self-confidence and sense of belonging.
