1.1. Đề bài
People who go to live in other countries, should follow the customs and traditions of the new country. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
(Những người đến sinh sống ở các quốc gia khác nên tuân theo phong tục và truyền thống của quốc gia mới. Bạn đồng ý hay không đồng ý với quan điểm này ở mức độ nào?)

Câu hỏi: “To what extent do you agree or disagree?” → yêu cầu người viết bày tỏ quan điểm cá nhân.

Lập trường của bài mẫu: Bài viết theo hướng balanced opinion (partly agree)
- Đồng ý rằng người nhập cư nên tuân theo phong tục nước sở tại.

1.3. Dàn bài chi tiết
Yêu cầu:
- Paraphrase đề.
- Nêu rõ quan điểm: people should embrace the host country’s customs … while maintaining their own traditions.
Body Paragraph 1 – Lý do nên tuân theo phong tục nước sở tại
- Topic sentence: Tuân theo phong tục giúp hòa nhập xã hội.
- Explanation: mỗi quốc gia có chuẩn mực khác nhau → không hiểu sẽ gây hiểu lầm, xung đột.
- Example: văn hóa tip ở Mỹ.
Body Paragraph 2 – Vì sao không nên từ bỏ truyền thống cá nhân
Theo hướng balanced opinion:
- Topic sentence: truyền thống tạo nên national identity & personal identity.
- Explanation: đồng hóa hoàn toàn có thể gây cultural loss và social resentment.
- Example: ăn chay / không ăn thịt lợn của người Hindu, được nhiều nước tôn trọng.
Conclusion
- Nhắc lại quan điểm.
- Tóm tắt ý chính.
2. Bài mẫu
It is proposed that newcomers to a country should be accustomed to the local practices and conventions. While I acknowledge the reason for this thinking, I would argue that people should embrace the host country’s customs for harmonious coexistence overseas while maintaining national identity.
On the one hand, understanding and following the customs of a new country is essential for social integration. Since each country is characterized by a different set of lifestyles and social norms, the ignorance of these would subject a person to unnecessary misunderstandings, which might hinder their social interactions or even escalate into conflicts. For example, in the US, tipping is established as a social norm rather than a personal decision. Immigrants who forgot to tip after leaving local restaurants could be viewed as impolite and discourteous despite the absence of malicious intent. Considering these reasons, the belief that following the local customs seems perfectly justifiable.
However, people should not abandon their own traditions and identity. This is because a national quintessence and a person’s identity are shaped by traditions, such as food, festivals, language, and religion. If these personal traditions do not violate any laws or cause any inconveniences for living overseas, they should be respected, as full assimilation would inadvertently lead to cultural loss and social resentment. For example, Hindu religious traditions such as not eating pork are now widely recognized and respected among many host societies. Many restaurants and major airlines around the globe have dedicated an exclusive dietary option to cater for these special customer segments, since failing to embrace traditional discrepancies would kindle social resentment, placing predicaments on businesses. All these considered, host societies should be open to cultural differences with reasonable considerations.
In conclusion, while there are justifications that people residing in a new country should follow the local customs for harmonious social integration, this is by no means abandoning people’s traditions which have shaped their national identity. Thus, immigrants should be open to social norms and cultural differences within reasonable limits.
