1. Bài mẫu (Sample)

One of the most memorable dinners I’ve ever had was the one I shared with my family right after I came home from university. It had been an exhausting semester — full of final exams, term papers, and sleepless nights — and I hadn’t been home for months. I remember stepping into the house and immediately being welcomed by the smell of my mom’s cooking. She had prepared all my comfort food, things I used to love when I was a kid — like braised pork, vegetable soup, and fried fish.

We all sat down together at the table, and for the first time in ages, I actually felt relaxed. Mom started telling me about our neighbors, funny things that happened while I was gone, and little updates about my grandparents. Everyone was chatting, laughing, and watching TV in the background — it wasn’t anything fancy, but it felt so warm and familiar.

After dinner, I washed the dishes, and even though the kitchen is quite small for me now — I had to slouch and bend my knees just to reach the sink — everything felt so nostalgic. It reminded me of my childhood, when I used to help her with the same chores. I also fed our dogs, who were jumping around excitedly, and then Mom gave me a plate full of fresh fruit while we continued to chat about everything and nothing.

That night wasn’t about the food itself, but about being surrounded by people who love and care for me. After months of stress and deadlines, having that simple dinner made me feel grounded, peaceful, and genuinely happy

Part 3:

1. Do people prefer to eat out at restaurants or eat at home during the Spring Festival?

In my country, most people still prefer to eat at home during major holidays like the Spring Festival. It’s a time for family gatherings, and cooking together is considered part of the celebration. However, in big cities, some families do choose to eat out because it’s more convenient, especially when everyone is busy or doesn’t want to spend hours preparing food.

  • Eat out: ăn ngoài
  • Eat at home: ăn ở nhà
  • Spring Festival: Lễ hội mùa xuân / Tết Nguyên Đán

2. What food do you eat on special occasions, like during the Spring Festival or the Mid-autumn Festival?

During the Spring Festival, we usually have traditional dishes like boiled chicken, sticky rice, and spring rolls. Each dish has a symbolic meaning — for example, sticky rice represents family unity, and chicken symbolizes prosperity. During the Mid-autumn Festival, mooncakes are the most iconic food, and people often give them to friends and relatives as gifts.

  • Mid-autumn Festival: Tết Trung Thu
  • Traditional dishes: món ăn truyền thống

3. Why do people like to have meals together during important festivals?

Sharing a meal is one of the most natural ways to bond with family members. During festivals, eating together helps strengthen relationships, share happiness, and create memories. It’s not just about food, but about connection — the feeling of belonging and togetherness that comes from sitting around the same table.

  • Share a meal: cùng nhau ăn uống
  • Bond with family members: gắn kết với các thành viên trong gia đình
  • Eating together: cùng ăn
  • Strengthen relationships: củng cố mối quan hệ
  • Create memories: tạo nên kỷ niệm
  • Feeling of belonging and togetherness: cảm giác thuộc về và gần gũi
  • Sitting around the same table: ngồi quanh cùng một bàn ăn

4. Is it a hassle to prepare a meal at home?

It can be, especially for big occasions, because preparing a full meal takes a lot of time and effort — buying ingredients, cooking multiple dishes, and cleaning up afterward. But many people find joy in the process, especially when it’s a family activity. Cooking together can actually be fun and meaningful if everyone contributes.

5. What do people often talk about during meals?

It depends on the situation, but families usually talk about daily life, work, school, or neighborhood news. During festivals, the mood is lighter, so people often share funny stories, jokes, or memories from the past. The conversation helps bring everyone closer

6. People are spending less and less time having meals with their families these days. Is this good or bad?

I think it’s definitely not a good trend. With the fast-paced modern lifestyle, people often eat alone or in a rush, which affects both physical and emotional health. Family meals help people slow down, reconnect, and support each other, so losing that habit can make relationships weaker over time.
