1. Phân tích đề bài

1.1. Đề bài

Some people think that the best way to improve road safety is to increase the minimum legal age for driving a car or motorbike. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

1.2. Phân tích đề bài

Dạng bài: Opinion essay (To what extent do you agree or disagree?)

You need to clearly state your position (agree, disagree, or partially agree) and support it with strong arguments.

1.3. Dàn bài chi tiết

Introduction

  • Paraphrase the statement.
  • State your opinion (e.g., disagree, since other measures are more effective).

Body Paragraph 1 – Arguments supporting age increase

  • Younger drivers may lack maturity and responsibility → prone to reckless driving.
  • Statistics often show higher accident rates among drivers under 21.
  • Increasing age might reduce risk by ensuring drivers are more experienced and cautious.

Body Paragraph 2 – Counterarguments (why age is not the best solution)

  • Many accidents caused by older drivers too → age is not the only factor.
  • The real problem is lack of training, education, and enforcement of traffic laws
  • Example: strict driving tests, mandatory defensive driving courses, or penalties for speeding/drunk driving can improve safety more effectively.

Body Paragraph 3 – Alternative measures

  • Invest in better public transport to reduce reliance on cars.
  • Use technology: speed cameras, seatbelt reminders, and automated braking systems.
  • Continuous driver education (refresher courses, campaigns on safe driving).

Conclusion

  • Restate opinion: raising the minimum age may help slightly, but it is not the most effective solution.

Stronger measures focusing on driver education, law enforcement, and technology are more impactful.

2. Bài mẫu

Some people argue that raising the minimum legal age for driving cars and motorbikes is the most effective way to enhance road safety. While this approach may have certain benefits, I believe that more comprehensive measures are required to address the problem effectively.

On the one hand, increasing the driving age could contribute to reducing road accidents. Younger drivers, particularly teenagers, are often more prone to risky behaviour such as speeding or using mobile phones while driving. By setting a higher age limit, governments could ensure that drivers are more mature and responsible, which may reduce reckless driving. In addition, statistical evidence from many countries suggests that accident rates are disproportionately high among drivers under the age of 21, which lends some support to this policy.

On the other hand, limiting the right to drive based solely on age does not address the root causes of unsafe driving. Accidents are frequently caused by drivers of all age groups, particularly those who drive under the influence of alcohol or fail to follow traffic rules. Therefore, a more effective approach would be to improve driver education and impose stricter penalties for dangerous behaviours such as drunk driving or excessive speeding. For instance, mandatory defensive driving courses or regular re-testing could ensure that drivers develop the necessary skills and remain accountable for their actions.

Furthermore, governments could adopt alternative measures to enhance road safety without restricting driving rights. Expanding public transportation would reduce the number of private vehicles on the road, thereby lowering accident risks. Additionally, the use of modern technology, such as speed cameras, seatbelt reminders, and collision-avoidance systems, can play a vital role in preventing accidents. These solutions are likely to be more effective and fair than simply raising the legal driving age.

In conclusion, while raising the minimum legal driving age might help reduce accidents to some extent, I am convinced that more comprehensive measures focusing on education, law enforcement, and technological improvements offer a more sustainable solution to road safety.
