Bài thi IELTS Writing Task 1 yêu cầu người học phải miêu tả và so sánh dữ liệu của các bảng, biểu đồ cho sẵn trong đề bài. Dưới đây là các cấu trúc câu trong Writing IELTS Task 1 giúp bạn có thể ghi điểm ngữ pháp trong bài làm của mình.

1. Cấu trúc câu mô tả xu hướng (Sentence Structures Describing Trend)

Pattern 1:

There + (be) + a/an + adj + noun + to/of [how much] + in [something]

Examples:

There was a sharp rise to £300. (Đã có một sự gia tăng mạnh lên đến 300 bảng.)
There was a modest dip in levels of obesity in the early and mid 1990s. (Mức độ béo phì giảm nhẹ vào đầu và giữa những năm 1990.)

Pattern 2:

[Something] + verb + adverb

Examples:

The figure remained stable in the first three years. (Chỉ số này vẫn ổn định trong ba năm đầu tiên.)
Austrian numbers have reached just over 20%. (Chỉ số của Áo chỉ đạt hơn 20%.)
Sales of video cassettes fluctuated wildly, but the trend was upward/downward. (Doanh số bán băng video dao động dữ dội, nhưng có xu hướng tăng/giảm.)
The percentage of malnourished elderly people in the EU peaked at 16%. (Tỷ lệ người già suy dinh dưỡng ở EU đạt mức cao nhất là 16%.)
Earnings fluctuated between £800 and £900. (Thu nhập dao động trong khoảng £800 đến £900.)

Pattern 3:

[Something] + saw/witnessed/experienced/registered + a/an + adjective + noun + of/to [how much]

Examples:

Income reached a low point of 4% in 2000. (Thu nhập đạt mức thấp 4% vào năm 2000.)
The figure went up by around £300, from £100 to £410, indicating a rise of 310. (Con số này đã tăng khoảng 300 bảng, từ 100 bảng lên 410 bảng, cho thấy mức tăng là 310.)
In 2003 bed occupancy had reached a peak of just under 70 beds, before falling back. (Vào năm 2003, công suất sử dụng giường đã đạt đỉnh điểm chỉ dưới 70 giường, trước khi lại giảm.)

Since	The use of the Internet has risen enormously since 1990s.

3. Các cấu trúc diễn tả về số lượng (Common Expressions of Measurement)

Amount The total amount The whole amount of The full amount The greatest amount	The amount of production increased in the last 20 years. The amount of wealth/experience/waste… Please pay the full amount (of money) by the end of the month. A tiny amount of dirt can be found on the ground.
Quantity The total quantity	The police also found a quantity of ammunition in the flat. He had consumed a large quantity of alcohol. Huge quantities of oil were spilling into the sea.
Volume	The volume of traffic on your roads has risen sharply. The huge volume of trade with China is increasing.
Yield	This year’s cotton yield is sold out.
Level	There is a high level of unemployment.They measured the level of alcohol in his blood.
Number The total number The greatest number	The number of cars on the road increased in the last 20 years. The number of unemployed people has decreased. There are a number of people who have asked for this book.
Figure	While the number of Internet users was only 2.6 million in 1990, this figure has more than doubled in the last two years. The figure for people having jobs in 2000 increased.
The majority The minority	The vast majority of patients are elderly. The majority of workers find it quite hard to live on the amount of money they earn. In this city, Muslims are in the majority.
Maximum/Minumum	These sheep reach a maximum of 70kg at adulthood.
All of the	All of the population All of the people
The whole of the	The whole of the population The whole of the production for that year
Ratio	The ratio of nursing staff to doctors is 2:1. The ratio between profits and incomes.
Rate	Australia’s unemployment rate rose to 6.5% in February.
Proportion Percentage Percent	A rapid increase in the divorce rate emerged. The proportion of women to men in the workforce increased. The proportion of women graduates has increased in recent years. Although the majority of offenders are men, a small proportion – about 5 percent – are women.
