1. What kinds of apartments are the most popular? IELTS Speaking Part 3

In urban areas like HCMC, townhouses are seen all over. However, in recent years, because of the high immigration rate, there is a population influx, forcing apartment complexes to sprout up everywhere to accommodate them. In the rural regions, detached houses with a huge yard or garden are more commonplace.

2. What are the differences between the houses of young people and old people?

Regardless of the type of house and the size, the starkest distinguishing feature is the interior. Young adults tend to choose a brighter color scheme for their house, from the wall paint to the floor tiles. Their parents would prefer the opposite, though, as they would opt for a more subdued tone with wooden furniture. Another difference would be that younger people prefer minimalism when it comes to decorating their houses instead of crowding the space like their seniors.

3. What are the differences between apartments and houses?

There are quite a few distinctions to note, and the most obvious is the layout. Most apartments seem cramped though modern-looking, while houses tend to be more spacious with at least an attic or a basement. Some houses are designed with the common areas like the living room on the ground floor and the bedrooms upstairs, when you usually don’t have to climb any stairs in an apartment.

4. Do people usually rent or buy a house? Why?

As far as I’m concerned, urbanites tend to rent apartments instead of buying real estate. I guess it’s probably because there’s less paperwork to deal with at a time. On the other hand, buying a house in Vietnam would be too cumbersome due to the sheer amount of procedure involved. Some apartments also come fully furnished, so one can just move in with a suitcase after signing a lease contract without having to buy any knick knacks for their place. Interior design and decoration would probably put a lot of people off because of how exhausting they can be.
