Câu trả lời mẫu (Sample Answer) Childhood memory IELTS Speaking Part 1

1. What did you enjoy doing as a child?

As a kid I loved spending time indoors. I could spend all day reading and building elaborate LEGO sets. And whenever I managed to lay my hands on a phone, I would play games all day. Mobile phones didn’t use to have a lot of games back then, and I remember playing this one game “Snake”. Basically, you control a snake with arrow keys, trying to eat as much as possible without crashing into its growing body.

  • Managed to do sth: xoay xở để làm gì đó

2. Did you enjoy your childhood?

I think I had a pretty nice childhood. My parents taught me to read from very early on and built me small colorful bookshelves around the house. However, as a first born, I was pretty lonely, and I don’t remember having a lot of friends at school. I was the smallest kid in class and always got picked on. Then I started Taekwondo, and even though I wasn’t great at it, no one dared to mess with me anymore.

  • from very early on: từ khi còn rất sớm
  • got picked on: bị bắt nạt

3. What are your best childhood memories?

Just off the top of my head: I love goofing around with friends from Taekwondo classes. Everyone was nice, and no one cared if you played a little bit rough, because they knew it was all in good fun and you never meant to hurt them. I also love snuggling up in big blankets with my younger sister while pretending to be a burrito, or a caterpillar, literally anything without limbs. It was super silly. We laughed like crazy and we told silly stories, too.

  • goofing around with sb: đi chơi với ai đó một cách vui vẻ và thoải mái
  • played a little bit rough: chơi đùa một cách hơi mạnh tay, hơi bạo lực
  • [sth] is in good fun: để cho vui, không có ý xấu
  • snuggling up: cuộn mình vào, tựa vào một cách thoải mái

4. Do you think it is better for children to grow up in the city or in the countryside?

Well, it ultimately depends on the child’s needs and the family’s preferences. For some, the tranquility and close-knit community of the countryside might be ideal, and for others, the vibrant and dynamic environment of a city offers the best opportunities for growth and development.
