5. Why do some people like to post their photos on social media?

1. Do you think people are taking too many photos these days?

I wouldn’t say too many but for sure more photos get taken in this day and age. Everyone has that need to capture and store memories to look back on later, which has been greatly facilitated by all sorts of high-tech gadgets on offer, you know. Many would say photo snapping distracts them from enjoying real life experiences, but I think it depends on how they look at it and whether they’re stressing out too much on having perfectly flawless pictures.

  • To snap a photo (V): chụp hình
  • High-tech gadgets (N): thiết bị hiện đại
  • Flawless (A): đẹp hoàn hảo

2. What kinds of photos do people like to take?

I suppose most photos taken these days are meant to be shared on social media. You know it’s a new form of self expression and it’s highly accessible so the moments that could attract attention or tell a story might be what people like to capture. For my part, me and my friends would often take photos of each other when we go out or do something special, not really for the Internet since we don’t post that much but more for revisiting later.

  • Self expression (N): thể hiện bản thân

3. Do you think equipment is important for photography?

Definitely yes. I mean, each type of camera gives off really unique energy and it’s great to have that diversity. I have always been into photography, I’m not a pro, but I have two gadgets to turn to everyday. One is my iPhone, which has 3 cameras and offers ultra wide lenses – perfect for capturing landscapes. The other, also my favorite, is my vintage digital camera. Its photo color is no joke, though it’s very tiny and can really fit into your pocket. I mostly take this one out for portraits and fashion shoots, and my Instagram followers keep asking me which equipment I use, which is kind of flattering to me.

  • Ultra wide lenses (N): camera góc rộng
  • Diversity (N): sự đa dạng
  • Flattering (A): bùi tai

4. Do you think being a professional photographer is a good job? Why?

I think when considering whether a job is good or not, there are two factors to take into account: the fulfillment you can derive from it and the living you can make off of it. I read somewhere that being an artist equals taking big risks when it comes to financial stability, but I believe that as long as the artist stays open to new knowledge and new opportunities, anything is possible.

  • To derive fulfillment from (V): cảm thấy thỏa mãn khi làm gì
  • Make a living off (of) something (V): kiếm sống bằng gì
  • Take big risks (V): chấp nhận rủi ro
  • Financial stability (N): ổn định tài chính

5. Why do some people like to post their photos on social media?

Well I guess it’s a fact that the young these days are conditioned to have the need to constantly share their personal life onto media platforms, and it can never be enough. The instant gratification from attention in the form of likes, comments or shares, either from strangers or relatives, can be really intriguing and keeps them posting more and more and more, so it’s almost like a kind of addiction to me. Honestly I’m no exception, I used to post my whole life on the Internet, but after realizing how detrimental it can be to my personal life I have taken a step back and keep a lower profile

  • To be conditioned to V: được tạo điều kiện để
  • Instant gratification (N): sự thỏa mãn tức thì
  • I’m no exception: Tôi cũng không phải ngoại lệ
  • Keep a low profile: kín tiếng về bản thân
