ielts speaking part 3 people sometimes go to other cities or other countries to travel?

1. Why do people sometimes go to other cities or other countries to travel?

There are various reasons that I can tell you just now. Firstly and most obviously, some people are just bitten by the travel bug and they get so addicted to exploring new destinations. Secondly, we go on holiday mostly to recharge our batteries after a whole year working or studying so diligently. Without a doubt, visiting a new place, seeing some new faces and trying some new food can be an effective way to boost our energy. Besides, some people hit the road simply to find better weather conditions. As a matter of fact, people in the south of VN, during the summer when it’s like a furnace, usually go to the beach to enjoy the cooler, more pleasant weather.

  • bitten by the travel bug: rất thích du lịch
  • hit the road: bắt đầu hành trình
  • As a matter of fact: sự thật là
  • it’s like a furnace: nóng như cái lò thiêu vậy

2. Why are historical cities popular?

From my perspective, the main reason could be that people indeed do care about our origins and past. For example, we are so excited to visit some cities off the beaten track when we are told that these were the original places of our ancestors, where for the first time in history, apemen could actually stand on their two hindlimbs. Then, historical cities can also be famous tourist attractions thanks to their various activities to offer, such as the exciting nightlife, guided tours around the areas or many festivals that we can find nowhere else.

  • off the beaten track: xa xôi

3. Why do places with historical sites develop tourism more actively?

As I have mentioned previously, people are always drawn to any place with some connections to history, which means those sites just have what it takes to attract visitors. As a result, with just some small investment in infrastructure and amenities, ancient attractions may help the locals to make a living. On a larger scale, the development of tourism in historical sites can also promote the culture of the areas and raise awareness of history.

  • make a living: kiếm sống
  • On a larger scale: ở tầm lớn hơn

4. Do you think tourists may come across bad things in other cities?

Without a doubt, yes, I mean visitors can have bad experiences in any cities, not just you know, the ancient old ones or the newly built ones. It’s just simply due to the ways people there do business and treat foreigners. It’s true that in many destinations, services and products are sold at exorbitant prices for travellers only and they might also fall victim to various scams from the locals as they are not used to the place.

  • fall victim to: thành nạn nhân của cái gì

5. Do most people like planned travelling?

I suppose the majority of us do love a detailed itinerary as it makes travelling more pleasant and enjoyable. We have done our homework to make sure things go smoothly, we know exactly where, when and how to eat, play and go sightseeing and also how we can protect ourselves from some tourist traps. To be honest, if there is only one lesson I want to tell people regarding travelling, well, hitting the road without a plan can never end up with satisfaction.

  • have done our homework: đã nghiên cứu về cái gì
  • tourist traps: bẫy du khách (chỗ bán đồ đắt… cho các khách du lịch)

6. Why is noise pollution worse in tourism cities than in other cities?

I have never thought about it, but let’s see, irritating sounds in the cities might come from construction sites, honking vehicles and people communicating, which are likely to happen more frequently in tourism-based metropolises. They need to develop infrastructure and facilities to get more visitors and offer convenient transportation. On top of that, to boost sales, businesses in those cities might have to shout out to get the attention of tourists.
