Câu trả lời mẫu (Sample Answer) IELTS Speaking Part 3 Music

1. Why are many music competitions popular in Vietnam?

I suppose this could be attributed to a host of reasons but the most important one is that these shows give the audience a great source of inspiration and motivation. As we watch the contestants rising from zero to hero, we get to think that maybe within each one of us, we also have what it takes to overcome every stumbling block in our life and become great. Perhaps more than any other kind of reality show, televised music competitions such as The Voice or American Idols really do open the doors for extraordinary dreamers and that’s what makes them appeal to a large number of audience.

  • To be attributed to (adj): dc quy cho (là do)
  • From zero to hero: một khái niệm chỉ những người vươn lên từ hèn khó và trở thành sao sáng.
  • Stumbling block (n) thử thách, chướng ngại vật

2. What kinds of music do young people like?

I really can’t make a blanket statement about music preferences of the youth because everyone’s different and people’s music tastes might vary greatly all the time. But Vietnamese young people are pretty into pop ballad right now. Slow-paced songs about romance with catchy melodies and painfully heartfelt lyrics have been all the rage in the music industry for a while.

  • Make a blanket statement (v) vơ đũa cả nắm
  • Heartfelt (adj) chân thành
  • All the rage (adj) thịnh hành

3. What kinds of people like traditional music?

Probably the elderly. And this is because as we grow older, there’s a tendency to be less receptive to new experiences so we’d prefer to revisit old and familiar ideas in order to relive past experiences. In the same way, listening to traditional music could easily bring a nostalgic feeling and help the seniors to preserve important memories

  • To be receptive to (adj) dễ tiếp nhận

4. What are the differences between live concert and online concert?

On the one hand, digital concerts do not meet the bar in terms of excitement and overall fun due to the lack of real-life interactions and connections with the singers as well as other fans. Even though fans can request specific songs, raise questions, and can send comments the performances in real-time, most of these interactions could easily be ignored or disrupted owing to technological failures. On the other hand, virtual concerts are much more affordable and accessible than in-person ones. Fans can easily get to enjoy a top-notch performance of their favourite artists regardless of their geographical location at a fraction of the price of a live concert.

  • Top-notch (adj) Hàng đầu
  • At a fraction of the price: với giá thấp hơn

5. What kind of music do people like at different ages?

Generally, most people seem to enjoy whatever’s popular during their time, so older people tend to prefer songs from the past while younger people gravitate towards genres that are much more modern, but it’s more complicated than that. Speaking from a scientific point of view, someone’s taste in music is largely influenced by what they listened to in their childhood, which would often be deemed superior to other genres that they are exposed to later in life.

  • gravitate towards: nghiêng về
  • Speaking from a scientific point of view: nói một cách khoa học
  • deemed: cho là
  • superior: hơn
  • are exposed to: tiếp xúc với

6. What kind of music is popular in your country now and what kind will be in the future?

In Vietnam, the most prevalent genre would have to be pop, I mean it’s called ‘pop’ for a reason. Pop songs are usually popular because of their upbeat melody and catchy lyrics, to which people can easily sing along. Besides, Vietnamese rap music has recently taken the whole country by storm due to the production of two seasons of a tv show called Rap Viet. This is the first time that rap music and artists have made their way on national television, challenging prejudices against them and gaining popularity among the public.

  • prevalent: phổ biến
  • taken the whole country by storm: trở nên phổ biến nhanh chóng
  • national television: truyền hình quốc gia
  • challenging prejudices: thách thức định kiến

7. Do parents in your country require their children to learn and to play musical instruments?

I don’t think so. I guess aside from extreme cases where parents somehow consider being able to play the piano or violin the hallmark of a successful kid, most Vietnamese parents are more understanding and open-minded. I’m not a parent yet, but judging from my own upbringing and my friends’, as well as the cases of people I know, I think we aren’t usually forced to learn something but would be guided and supported to pursue what we want. I think this could also be attributed to the fact that music lessons are not that affordable, and Vietnam is still a developing country.

  • hallmark: đặc điểm
  • be attributed to: bởi vì

8. Why do some people like to listen to live music while others prefer CDs?

The main benefit of enjoying music from a CD or any music streaming website is obviously you can do it in the comfort of your own home . Additionally, sound systems nowadays have become much more advanced, which means that the quality of your personal set of speakers could provide ample quality to help you enjoy your music to the fullest. Meanwhile, live music concerts could feed our tribal mindset. Humans are hardwired to feel the need for socialization , and many would enjoy music better when with company.

  • the comfort of your own home: tiện nghi ở nhà
  • ample: đủ
  • tribal mindset: tư duy bầy đàn
  • hardwired to: bản chất là
  • socialization: giao lưu
