ielts speaking part 1 food

1. Who usually makes food in your home?

Well, people commonly assume that women should do all the cooking, but in my house, it’s totally not the case. Although my mom is an awesome chef, she is inundated with her workload most of the time, so my dad is in charge of preparing meals for the family. Mind you, he’s like a wiz in the kitchen, and has created many signature dishes of his own, which is a funny story because we often make a joke that if mom and dad hadn’t gotten married, my dad could’ve become a world-famous Master Chef by now.

2. Where do you eat most often?

At home, of course. For one, I honestly can’t find a word to describe how well my father cooks, and believe it or not, I do think that sometimes he uses his food as a way to… lure us, which actually has proven successful. Another reason why I choose to dine with my family is that everytime we sit together at the table, enjoying the home-made food, sharing stories that crack one another up, we’re all hassle-free. Such simple moments help promote the bond between us as well.

3. When do you like to go out to eat?

Since I spend my weekdays eating at home with my family, I wouldn’t say no to a casual invitation to eat out at weekends from my mates, mostly my colleagues or my boyfriend, maybe just to try a newly-open bistro around the corner of the street. And sometimes, whenever there’s an occasion to celebrate, say, a cousin’s graduation or a birthday party of my relative, our family will typically get dressed and enjoy meals together in a fancy restaurant of their choice.

4. Do you think it is important to learn to cook?

If it’s my parents who were asked this question, their answer would be absolutely yes, as they have been teaching their daughter, me, about what they refer to as ‘the art of cooking’ since I entered primary school. And yeah, I couldn’t agree more, for a, preparing food at home can reduce the risk of being affected by food-borne diseases, hence a better health, and b, having good cooking skills also means that I can form a healthy eating and cleaning habit.
