Câu trả lời mẫu (Sample Answer)
1. What kinds of exercises do Vietnamese people like?
I think there are plenty of forms of exercises people in Vietnam do! Some do sports, some enjoy working out in a gym, some fancy dancing. The most famous sport in Vietnam is football, so millions from all age groups and social classes would enjoy a kickabout in their free time. And as I notice in recent years, going to the gym is a quite booming type of exercise.
- enjoy a kickabout: tận hưởng một cú đá
- booming (a) bùng nổ
2. What characteristics do you think an athlete should have?
Off the top of my head, I think of a few attributes a professional athlete should possess would be resilience, perseverance and discipline. Pursuing a career in sports is not an easy and common path so any individual following it should be perseverant and persistent because there are bound to be obstacles such as injuries, low pay, even hatred from sport spectators. Moreover, in order to excel in any form of sport, a great sense of discipline is a must in order to maintain continuous training.
- attribute (n) thuộc tính
- resilience, perseverance and discipline:(n) khả năng phục hồi, kiên trì và kỉ luật
- obstacle (n) chướng ngại vật
- excel in (v) trội hơn về
- sense of discipline (n) ý thức kỷ luật
3. Why are there so few top athletes?
To my mind, what sets apart elite sportsmen from mediocre ones is a mentality, which is extremely hard to measure and therefore hard to improve. I think there are far too many good athletes in different sports, but only a few can reach stardom because not many players can thrive in immensely stressful situations. There are different kinds of pressure circumstances such as getting booed at by rival fans, pressure to execute flawlessly in vital moments like the last shot of the game, etc. I have witnessed many rising sports stars fail to overcome pressure, hence never living up to their full potential.
- set apart: phân biệt (ai với ai)
- mediocre: tầm thường
- mentality (n) trí lực
- reach stardom: (v) đạt được ngôi sao
- boo at (v) la ó tại
- pressure to execute flawlessly (n) áp lực để thực hiện hoàn hảo
- live up to one’s full potential: sống hết khả năng của ai
4. What’s the best way to become a top athlete?
In my opinion, these following factors contribute to the success of a world-class athlete: hard work, talent, mentality and luck, the importance of each factor follows that same order. So if we look at those aspects, the things we can actually control would be the amount of work we put in the training, physically and mentally. We all have heard numerous stories elite sportsmen tell about how hard work pays off and it’s completely true. The only thing an athlete can and should do is to practice and train as arduously, strenuously as possible and hope that everything else would fall in line.
- world-class athlete (n) vận động viên đẳng cấp thế giới
- hard work pays off (phrase) làm việc được chăm chỉ
- arduously (adv) strenuously (adv) gian nan, vất vả
- fall in line (v) rơi vào hàng
