The diagram renders a detailed depiction of the process whereby fresh olives are transformed into edible olive oil.
Overall, raw olives undergo 7 main steps, which involve the role of several special pieces of equipment, to transform into marketable olive oil. It commences with the harvesting of the fruits and culminates in the storage and distribution of the refined oil.
The preliminary stage of olive oil production is characterized by the collection of raw olives from olive trees. Once the raw olives have been amassed, they are washed thoroughly with cold water. This step is imperative to ensure that the olive oil produced at the end is devoid of any dirt and unwanted impurities.
Having been rinsed, the olives are then placed onto a conveyor belt to be transferred to a milling chamber where they are crushed. Subsequent to the completion of this step, olive paste and olive stones emerge as the resulting byproducts. While the stones are discarded, the olive paste is then filled into porous bags for further processing.
The ensuing stages see the olive paste inside those bags being converted to marketable olive oil through a series of processes. These bags are first fed into a press to extract liquid from the paste through the use of intense pressure. The holes in these bags allow liquid from the paste to escape, leaving the solid byproduct retained within the bags. Once the liquid has been separated from the solid, it is channeled into a chamber to settle. The culmination of this process is the natural separation of the water from the olive oil, the latter of which is then ready for storage and commercial use.
