Part 2: Describe a person who is good at learning and speaking new languages
Đề bài: Describe a person who is good at learning and speaking new languages
You should say:
- How you got to know him/her
- How he/she learns a new language
- What languages he/she can speak
- And explain how you feel about him/her
1. Bài mẫu (Sample)
One person who immediately comes to mind is Xiaomanyc, who’s a well-known YouTuber and polyglot famous for speaking multiple languages with an impressively natural accent.
I first stumbled across his content a few years ago when one of his videos randomly appeared on my YouTube feed. In the video, he was chatting with native Chinese speakers in local restaurants and convenience stores, and honestly, I was completely blown away by how fluent and spontaneous he sounded. At first, I genuinely assumed he had grown up in China because his pronunciation and intonation were incredibly authentic. After that, I went down a rabbit hole watching more of his videos, and I quickly became a huge fan of his content.
What makes him stand out from other language learners is his highly immersive and communication-driven approach. Rather than obsessing over grammar textbooks or memorizing endless vocabulary lists, he prioritizes real-world interaction and active exposure. He often puts himself in situations where he’s forced to communicate with native speakers, which helps him develop conversational fluency much faster. Another thing I admire is that he pays close attention to colloquial expressions, slang, and cultural nuances instead of just learning textbook language, which is one of the reasons why he sounds so natural when speaking different languages.
As far as I know, he speaks English, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, French, and several other languages to varying degrees of proficiency. What’s truly remarkable is his ability to code–switch seamlessly depending on who he’s interacting with. Even when he’s not perfectly fluent, he still communicates confidently and keeps the conversation flowing naturally.
What I admire most about him is probably his intellectual curiosity and willingness to step outside his comfort zone. A lot of language learners are terrified of making mistakes or sounding awkward, but he embraces the learning process instead of being embarrassed by it. Watching his videos has completely changed the way I view language learning. It made me realize that becoming fluent isn’t just about mastering grammar — it’s also about cultural immersion, confidence, and meaningful human connection.

Part 3:
1. Are there many people who can speak foreign languages in your country?
Yeah, definitely, especially among younger generations in big cities. English is still the most widely spoken foreign language because it’s considered essential for both academic and professional opportunities. On top of that, social media and globalization have made language learning much more accessible than before. For example, many students now improve their English through YouTube, TikTok, podcasts, or even online language exchanges instead of relying entirely on traditional classrooms.
- widely spoken (adj. phr.): được sử dụng rộng rãi
- academic and professional opportunities (n. phr.): cơ hội học tập và nghề nghiệp
- globalization (n.): toàn cầu hóa
- language exchanges (n. phr.): trao đổi ngôn ngữ
- traditional classrooms (n. phr.): lớp học truyền thống
2. Does speaking other languages help at work?
Absolutely. In today’s increasingly globalized job market, being multilingual can give people a huge competitive edge. Employees who are able to communicate with international clients or overseas partners are often viewed as more valuable by employers. In some industries like tourism, technology, or international business, foreign language proficiency is practically a prerequisite. Besides better career prospects, speaking another language also improves cross-cultural communication skills, which are becoming more important nowadays.
- globalized job market(n. phr.) – thị trường lao động toàn cầu hóa
- multilingual(adj.) – đa ngôn ngữ
- competitive edge(n. phr.) – lợi thế cạnh tranh
- foreign language proficiency(n. phr.) – trình độ ngoại ngữ
- prerequisite(n.) – điều kiện tiên quyết
- cross-cultural communication(n. phr.) – giao tiếp đa văn hóa
3. Do people learn any languages other than English?
Definitely. Although English remains the dominant foreign language, many people are also becoming interested in Korean, Japanese, and Chinese. I think one major reason is the growing influence of Asian pop culture, such as K-pop, anime, and Chinese dramas. Another reason is that these languages can open up opportunities for studying abroad or working for international companies. Personally, I’ve noticed that a lot of young people nowadays are learning languages simply out of personal interest rather than pure academic pressure.
- dominant foreign language (n. phr.): ngoại ngữ phổ biến nhất
- Asian pop culture (n. phr.): văn hóa đại chúng châu Á
- open up opportunities (v. phr.): mở ra cơ hội
4. Why is it easier for children to learn new things than for adults?
I think children tend to learn faster mainly because they’re naturally curious and less self-conscious. They aren’t overly afraid of making mistakes, so they’re more willing to experiment and try new things. Adults, on the other hand, usually overanalyze everything and often feel embarrassed when they fail. Besides that, children’s brains are generally more adaptable, especially when it comes to pronunciation and language acquisition. That’s why kids can often pick up accents much more naturally than adults.
- self-conscious (adj.): ngại ngùng, quá để ý bản thân
- overanalyze (v.): phân tích quá mức
- adaptable (adj.): dễ thích nghi
- language acquisition (n. phr.): quá trình tiếp thu ngôn ngữ
- pick up accents (v. phr.): bắt chước/tiếp thu giọng điệu, ngữ điệu địa phương
5. How do people learn new things?
People learn in all sorts of ways depending on their personalities, goals, and learning styles. Some prefer structured environments like schools or courses, while others learn better independently through online resources or hands-on experience. Personally, I think the most effective approach is active learning because people tend to remember things better when they actually apply what they’ve learned in real life. For example, when learning a new language, simply memorizing vocabulary isn’t enough, you also need regular exposure and real communication practice to become fluent.
- structured environments (n. phr.): môi trường học có tổ chức
- hands-on experience (n. phr.): trải nghiệm thực hành
- active learning (n. phr.): học chủ động
- regular exposure (n. phr.): sự tiếp xúc thường xuyên
