- stance: mostly disagree
- lý do: dù có nghiên cứu thiếu thực tế, khoa học vẫn tạo ra lợi ích lớn cho xã hội
Body 1: Counterargument – Some research may be wasteful
- Counterargument: một số nghiên cứu khoa học có thể bị xem là lãng phí
- Support 1: một số dự án quá lý thuyết / xa rời đời sống → khó tạo ứng dụng thực tế ngay lập tức
- Support 2: nếu funding bị quản lý kém → tiền công có thể bị dùng cho dự án trùng lặp, thiếu giá trị hoặc không có kết quả rõ ràng
- Refutation: nhưng không nên đánh giá nghiên cứu chỉ dựa trên lợi ích ngắn hạn
- Support refutation 1: nhiều phát hiện khoa học cần thời gian dài mới ứng dụng được → ví dụ: vaccine, internet, công nghệ y tế
- Support refutation 2: nghiên cứu cơ bản tạo nền tảng cho phát minh tương lai → nếu chỉ tài trợ nghiên cứu “có lợi ngay”, xã hội sẽ mất cơ hội đột phá lớn

2. Bài mẫu
Some people argue that much of the scientific research conducted today is a waste of time and money. While I accept that certain research projects may be poorly managed or have limited practical value, I largely disagree with this view because scientific investigation plays a crucial role in human progress.
Admittedly, some scientific studies can appear wasteful, especially when they are highly theoretical or disconnected from people’s immediate needs. For example, governments may spend large sums on projects whose outcomes are difficult for the public to understand or apply in daily life. In addition, if research funding is not carefully monitored, money may be allocated to repetitive or low-quality studies, which can make scientific work seem like an inefficient use of resources. However, this argument overlooks the fact that many important discoveries do not produce instant results. Research that seems abstract at first can later become the foundation for major breakthroughs in medicine, communication or engineering. Therefore, judging science only by its short-term usefulness is too narrow.
More importantly, scientific research brings enormous benefits to society. In medicine, it enables scientists to develop new vaccines, drugs and treatment methods, helping people live longer and healthier lives. Recent advances in disease prevention and medical technology would not have been possible without years of careful research. Beyond healthcare, science is also essential for addressing global challenges such as climate change, food shortages and energy security. Studies on renewable energy, sustainable agriculture and environmental protection can help countries build a safer and more resilient future. Furthermore, scientific innovation often creates high-skilled jobs and drives economic development.
In conclusion, although some research projects may be inefficient, it is wrong to claim that a lot of scientific research is simply a waste of time and money. With proper funding and management, scientific research remains one of the most valuable investments a society can make.
