1. What kind of trees do people usually plant in your country? How about your hometown?
Interesting question! I myself don’t plant trees, but I do notice what other people normally plant in my country. These range from flowers like daisies, roses, sunflowers and tulips to fruit-bearing trees such as apple, orange and peach trees. If you ask me about HCM city, my hometown, I’d say besides the two types of plants I’ve just mentioned, there are also lots of shade trees like oaks and Indian almond trees planted here.
- Fruit-bearing tree: cây ăn quả
- Shade tree: cây tạo bóng râm
- Oak (tree): cây sồi
- Indian almond tree: cây bàng
2. Have you ever planted trees?
No, I haven’t. But my dad has; he used to plant a few bonsai on our roof terrace. His favorite types were kumquat and cherry blossom bonsai. He really had a thing for planting trees, you know. Unfortunately, because of his hectic work schedule, he couldn’t manage to look after his trees and therefore had to give them away.
- Roof terrace: sân thượng
- Have a thing for sb/sth (idiom): like sb/sth very much
- Hectic (adj): very busy
3. What kinds of trees do you plant?
Like I said, I’ve never planted trees, nor do I intend to, so I don’t have much to share with you on this question.

4. Do you like planting trees? Why?
To be honest with you, I’m not a big fan of that activity. It’s probably because planting trees requires lots of hard work, dedication, and patience, and I just can’t be that diligent and patient for a hobby. On top of that, I don’t think I’m cut out for it. Usually, it requires a certain level of skill to trim leaves, water plants, and fertilize them, but I’m just very clumsy, you know.
