1. What technology do people currently use?
2. Why do big companies introduce new products frequently?
3. Why are people so keen on buying iPhones even though they haven’t changed much from one iPhone to the next?
4. Why do technology companies keep upgrading their products?
5. What changes has the development of technology brought about in our lives?
6. Does the development of technology affect the way we study? How?
1. What technology do people currently use?
Sample 1: Technology appears everywhere. We use our phones a lot, and within that small device, we have a lot of technologies like wifi, bluetooth, airdrop, … and so on. I guess in the future people will use tons of other cool tech stuff!
- Tech stuff: đồ công nghệ
Sample 2: Recently, people have been utilizing various technologies such as smartphones, smartwatches, and wireless earbuds. These devices undoubtedly yield significant benefits for users in terms of not only work productivity but also physical and mental health. Additionally, advancements in artificial intelligence and virtual reality have gained significant popularity among tech enthusiasts. The most straightforward example of this is Chat GPT, which raises lots of concern over the human position in the future.
- Utilize (v): sử dụng hiệu quả thứ gì
- Yield benefits: tạo ra những lợi ích
- artificial intelligence(n): trí tuệ nhân tạo)
- Virtual reality (n): thực tế ảo
2. Why do big companies introduce new products frequently?
Sample 1: I believe that is mainly because they simply want to sell more. It’s a part of consumerism. They launch new lines of products every quarter or year to boost their sales and create this belief that the items one bought 3 months ago is now obsolete, although it still functions perfectly.
- consumerism: chủ nghĩa tiêu dùng quá đà
- obsolete: cũ
Sample 2: From what I see, the salient rationale behind this business strategy is to stay competitive in the market and maintain customer interest. Regularly launching new products in fact, helps companies be updated, meet changing consumer needs, and capture a larger market share.
- Salient (a): quan trọng nhất, nổi bật nhất
- Capture a larger market share: nắm bắt được thị phần lớn hơn
3. Why are people so keen on buying iPhones even though they haven’t changed much from one iPhone to the next?
Sample 1: Well, the same thing I just said, consumerism. If one doesn’t get the latest (mới nhất) product, the IP 14 promax for example, he might feel that he is falling behind (tụt hậu), despite the fact that the IP 12 is still functioning well. Another reason is simply because they want to experience the latest feature such as the “Dynamic Island” on IP 14, and because they can afford it.
- latest: mới nhất
- falling behind: tụt hậu
Sample 2: People’s gravitation towards purchasing newly introduced iPhones, despite minimal changes from one model to the next, can be attributed to several reasons. Firstly, Apple’s marketing prowess generates hype and anticipation around each new iPhone release, creating a sense of excitement among consumers. Secondly, for many, owning the latest iPhone becomes a status symbol and a way to stay up-to-date with the latest technology trends. So they buy the latest versions not because of the superiority in functionality or design, but because they wanna show off their wealth and status.
- Gravitation toward something (n): Việc bị thu hút/ hấp dẫn vào thứ gì đó
- Prowess (n): sự tinh thông
- Superiority (n): Sự ưu việt
4. Why do technology companies keep upgrading their products?
Products are being upgraded constantly is a must when it comes to competition. Nokia is an example of a company that refused to renew themselves, and now that empire is a thing of the past! So I think If you can upgrade your products and have a “Selling point”, that’s your competitive edge in this market.
- renew: làm mới
- a thing of the past: đi vào dĩ vãng
- competitive edge: lợi thế cạnh tranh
5. What changes has the development of technology brought about in our lives?
Many things have changed, both positively and negatively. As I can find anything I want online with just a few clicks, I have access to a wide range of products, and I can do comparison shopping to get the best deal. However, there are downsides as we become increasingly dependent on technology. Chat GPT, which is a new kind of AI, is an example. Many students just don’t bother to use their brains to paraphrase or write essays anymore, instead they just need to write the question in the bot and then … everything else is just brainless “copy and paste”.
- comparison shopping: mua hàng so sánh
6. Does the development of technology affect the way we study? How?
Definitely, as technology evolves, students can search for free materials in nearly all fields. Take IELTS as an example, you can literally study IELTS with zero cost thanks to google, there are slides and videos about all 4 skills! On the other hand, the dependence on AI as Chat GPT is a threat that negatively affects students if used the wrong way.
- evolves: phát triển
