Câu trả lời mẫu (Sample Answer)

Sample 1

1. Did you usually go to the cinema when you were a kid?

Only occasionally, at that time, my family weren’t really well-off and actually quite frugal so my folks mainly bought DVDs for me to watch films at home rather than going to the movie theater.

  • movie theater: rạp chiếu phim

2. Do you usually go to the cinema with your friends?

No hardly ever. As a matter of fact I can’t remember the last time I went to a movie with a friend. If I did go to the cinema, my company would normally be my brother. And we would only go when there’s a blockbuster.

  • go to a movie: đi xem phim

3. Do you still enjoy watching the movies you loved as a child?

Some only. As a kid I was mostly into action or sci-fi pictures, especially narrative films because they stirred my imagination and allowed me to immerse myself in some exotic and extraordinary worlds. Now, with a more scrutinizing and hard-to-please movie taste, I find a lot of my old favourites quite terrible. Except for some really highly-praised franchises like Harry Potter, most of my childhood favourite films are poorly scripted and acted.

  • pictures: những bức ảnh
  • narrative films: phim tường thuật
  • favourites: yêu thích
  • poorly scripted: kịch bản kém

4. Do you prefer watching movies at home or at the cinema?

It depends actually. If we only talk about the quality of audiovisuals then going to a movie theater is an obvious choice. But I don’t like the hassle of dressing up and traveling to the venues so maybe my choice of preference would rely on whether I’m down to go out that day.

  • audiovisuals: nghe nhìn

Sample 2

1. Did you usually go to the cinema when you were a kid?

I would say that I was fortunate enough to be exposed to the thrill of the big screen when I was little. If my mind serves me right, it was around the beginning of my secondary school years when motion pictures started to grow on me. That’s why I would entreated my parents, or sometimes my brother, to take me to the cinema from time to time.

  • be exposed to (v phrase) được tiếp xúc với
  • thrill (n) sự phấn khích
  • the big screen = the box = cinema
  • motion picture = movie
  • entreat (v) nài nỉ

2. Do you usually go to the cinema with your friends?

Just as others, I would love to have a blast with my best buds at the movies, letting the plots take us on the emotional roller coaster together. Also, it wouldn’t fulfill the experience without an enthusiastic follow-up discussion after the main course on relevant subjects such as the shooting and acting.

  • just as others (adv phrase) cũng như bao người
  • have a blast (v phrase) = relax
  • best bud (n) = best friend
  • emotional roller coaster (n phrase; ẩn dụ) nhiều cung bậc cảm xúc
  • fulfill (v) làm cho trọn vẹn
  • main course (n) phần/tiết mục chính
  • shooting (n) kỹ thuật quay phim
  • acting (n) diễn xuất

3. Do you still enjoy watching the movies you loved as a child?

Actually, I still look high and low for some of the classic films that I was able to behold, albeit just by chance, when I was younger. I remember being taken aback by the astounding plots and the exceptional acting when I first came across those movies. Now that I’m able to gain an insight into them, it just hits different, and it makes me appreciate all the grey matter and effort devoted in such works even more.

  • behold (v) thưởng thức (tác phẩm)
  • albeit (conj.) mặc dù
  • be taken aback (v phrase) ngạc nhiên; bị ấn tượng mạnh
  • astounding (a) gây ngạc nhiên, ấn tượng mạnh
  • exceptional (a) xuất chúng
  • come across (v phrase) vô tình thấy/xem
  • gain an insight into sth (v phrase) hiểu biết sâu sắc về cái gì đó
  • hit different (v phrase) mang đến 1 cảm giác/trải nghiệm khác trước đó
  • grey matter (n) chất xám

4. Do you prefer watching movies at home or at the cinema?

As I mentioned previously, I’d love to share the delight at the box with my close-knit group. However, for some genres in which we don’t share the same interest, I guess we would have to enjoy on our own.

  • as i mentioned previously (adv phrase) như đã nói
  • delight (n) niềm vui, sự thích thú
  • genre (n) thể loại phim/sách/âm nhạc
